I say that in less than twenty years everybody will get their movies and music from the internet. Nobody will buy cds or dvds in stores. Makes me wonder if there will be such a thing as albums anymore. Just 3-4 songs released around a year or two I disagree. There will always be a market for this stuff. Its never going to switch to 100% digital distribution. I for one enjoy PHYSICALLY owning my movies... that's why I have a collection of over 2 thousand DVD's. Whats the fun in downloading stuff to your PC? Unless your streaming it to your TV set, I for one am not sitting in front of my computer and watching a movie. Anything over a 10 minute YouTube clip is too much. ~Kyle

I doubt CDs will fully disappear. I mean, sure, the world is increasingly going digital; but we still need hard copies of everything in case there's a huge worldwide blackout, which would pretty much cripple everything if there were no hard copies.

I still had an 8-track player a few years ago. I let my brother have it. I hope he still does.

Vinyl is already back. According to "Uncle John's bathroom reader" they sold 10 MILLION records in 2006. The only place around here to get new vinyl is Hot Topic and I'd rather wax my body than to go in that place.

I enjoy buying cd's over downloading albums, just something about looking at an album in your hands than looking at a bunch of pixels.
Which is why I enjoy buying vinyl more than cd's.

What's a shame is that most people who download music have specific songs they're looking for-and average of 3 or 4 songs per album-they are more likely to forego a search for a really good album cut that they might actually hear if they buy an album.
The paper debate is weak. Joe Blow doesn't give a shit or feel any guilt for buying a cd and having all that paper wasted. It's not like we're actually going to have forests-someone will tear them down to build a f***ing bank or something

I, like a bunch of you, prefer to have a tangible copy of an artist's work over just a downloaded mp3 or what-have-you. I only really keep music on my computer until I can burn it on to a disc. Just what makes sense to me. CDs, cassettes, vinyl are for music, the computer? Strictly porn. ;D

Like everyone else, im more for having tangible music. Also, if cd's die, that means no more used cd stores, and sometimes you can find a used cd for cheaper than on i-tunes (arent all cd's on that site $9.99 an album?). And DVDs will never die, if just for special features.

Cds will make a come back if Internet broadband companies start putting a cap on how much data you can download in it's plans. You laugh but it's already started in places like Canada. That would be bullcrap!

I like cds, means I have something tangible for my music. also far more reliable than a computer hard drive. I'm a tangibility man myself Joker. I like to know there is something physical I paid my money for.

I never thought about that, but i guess that's why I still buy CDs too. I'm a clutz, but at least I know how to take care of small shit like my CD collection, computers can break down too easily.

I dislike CDs because once I copy them to my computer and put it on my iPod, they're just laying around. I prefer downloading because then I don't have to worry about the clutter.

I put CDs on my computer and my 360. Then it's kept away for safe-keeping incase either breaks.

To me, looking through someone's CD/Vinyl/Tape collection is much more fun than simply browsing someone's ipod. I hope CD's stick around for a long time. Seconded on the condition that USB does not become the standard technology. If it did then music stock will look insane While vinyl is a superior format for sound it is inferior in capacity and mobility.

I still buy CDs, they're put on my computer/iPod and then I listen to them in my car.
