www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbyzTI0M8eoI am a big Groucho Marx fan. His straightwoman, whose name escapes me, does a phenomenal job giving him someone to play off of here while not laughing.

Margaret Dumont. Didn't even have to look it up. Marx Brothers rule the universe. Thank you, I was stuck on the last name. I figure this thread could use a nice gimmick: Name(or post videos of) two comedians/comedic actors from two different decades that really make you laugh. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IueXtzdC6kA Given his early death, Mitch Hedberg left a huge impression on me and my sense of humor. Him and Groucho probably set the tone for a lot of my humor, with Groucho being the more sardonic side.

George Carlin and Will Forte.
Whatever has been said about Carlin has allready been said, but Will Forte I find to be hilarious. Especially in "Personal Information Waltz" on the Demitri Martin album "These Are Jokes"

Groucho Marx is still probably the greatest verbal comedian I've ever seen or heard and it's been 70 years since his heyday. His style of taking over a scene, getting into other people's space, and rattling off one liners and building off of his previous lines is probably the most imitated style in comedy. He's just so witty and silly and at times mean spirited that you can't help but watch him and laugh. Groucho was also an extreme character in real and really eccentric. I dig him a lot.

This just reminded me of when I was 8 years old and my family and I took a holiday to Adelaide. While we were shopping my Dad and I found 2 pairs of Groucho Marx glasses. So we bought them and proceeded to walk through Adelaide the rest of the day with them on. For some reason my Mum and Sister didn't want to walk with us. Probably because they were jealous that we had the glasses and they didn't.

Especially in "Personal Information Waltz" on the Demitri Martin album "These Are Jokes" Came in here to throw more praise on top of Sir Groucho, but has since got distracted by your praise of Will Forte. Right on, everyone's already aware of Groucho, but that Forte, he's a fabulous current chap of the silly. Haven't heard that bit from Demitri's record (yet), but will definitely have to sooner now. But will say that Forte was the best part of Brothers Solomon (outside of Odenkirk), for a nonsensical comedy, that's quite great.

Have you seen the sketch he starred in on "Tim and Eric Awesome Show! Great Job." titled "Lazy Horse Mattress"? Very funny stuff.

Did everyone catch the name of Groucho's character in that clip? Captain Spaulding, I believe. Why? I remember reading Groucho showed some regret for hiw snappy remarks in later years, saying that when you're always trying to use lines, you don't really make for a good listener, and it'll ruin a conversation. Obviously not in movies, but in day to day life. Also, how can you not love a man who did a Charleston on the remains of Hitler's Bunker for 2 minutes straight?

Fine. Piss in my cheerios, why don't you.
Groucho: Is your husband still alive? Was he rich? Answer the second question first.

As for my thoughts on Groucho, I think he's easily one of the best funnymen of all time. "Duck Soup" is one of my favorite movies ever.

Yes it's Capt. Spaulding. My guess is that you've never seen House of 1,000 Corpses or The Devils Rejects to get the reference. But I won't spoil the connection of you wanted to see the movies. That said, The Marx Bros. were often unfairly compared to The 3 Stooges because both were different types of comedy and both were equally as funny but for star power at the time the Marx's had it all over my boys. As for Groucho specifically, my favorite thing from him was from Horsefeathers(I believe):
Connie: Hold me closer. Closer! Closer! Prof. Wagstaff: If I got any closer I'd be in back of you.

What can I say about Julius Henry Marx that hasn't been said already? Comedy legend, genius, my personal idol. There will never be another.
Chico: One dollar and you'll remember me forever.
Groucho: ...that's the most nauseating proposition I've *ever* heard.
