In women's indoor volleyball, the US team dominated the first set, but the Japanese did likewise in the second, so we're going into set #3 tied at one set apiece.

This is an amazing match so far.(Yeah, I know I said I wouldn't watch but I just going to boycott events that are judged). U.S. up 2-1 and as of now set 4 is a dog fight. Edited to add: The U.S. wins the match 3-1. On a sad not, U.S. Men's Vollyball coach Hugh McCutcheon's father-in-law Tom Bachman was murdered by a knife wielding nut. His wife Barbara is still hospitalized. Nice hosting there China. Nice job.

It should be mentioned that the US is guaranteed all three medals in women's fencing (the finals were already played, but the three finalists were all Americans).

I'm randomly watching women's weightlifting and it was quite the fight for the silver. The Chinese woman dominated and won gold easily but the Chinese Taipei woman tried so hard to get the 115 KG bar up but damn near killer herself as it almost fell ontop of her. At least she got bronze.
Kind of amazing to see 48 KG women lifting two and a half times their weight. And the Chinese gold medal winner made it look so easy.

Michael Phelps beat his Athens 04 gold medal pace in his qualifying heat in the 400 m so he looks good for his first gold medal.

The US women's outdoor volleyball team is about to start. (I use the term loosely considering it's prerecorded). They're facing The Netherlands.

UPDATE 2: THE SEQUEL: Branagh and Youngs (Team USA) advance to the next round of women's beach volleyball. The second set was scored 27-25 and was ultra-competitive.

This is going to get very weird with me posting the live stuff and the US posting stuff as they get it in their replays, what with the time lag. I guess a lot of the live coverage in the US ends at about 10am eastern or so.

Eastern Standard Time is exactly 12 hours behind Chinese time. It's 4:00 PM here and 4:00 AM there. So, yeah, a bit of lag.

The #2-seeded US team (who are only #2 because China gets automatic #1 placement due to being the home team) are getting TROUNCED by the low-seeded Latvian team, who are only six points from beating them in Round 1.
