Let's all appreciate the best stock sound effect of them all, the Wilhelm Scream.

I totally thought this was gonna be about A Wilhelm Scream, the band.
But I appreciate the sound effect as well.

Thats good. But I prefer the Goofy holler: 3:30 into video (It's that Yodeling Scream) You don't hear it enough these days SPOILER FOR THE DARK KNIGHT WARNING!Imagine at the end of The Dark Knight when Batman throws the Joker off the building and he did the Goofy Holler as he fell. That would of owned.
END SPOILER

As a kid I caught on that the same voice was screaming in such films like Star Wars and Beauty and the Beast. But I had no idea it was stock. I thought the same guy was hired in each film to fall and scream. I thought to myself what an easy pay day tha would be. Fall, scream and collect a paycheck.

There was an article on this in the latest total film magazine.
What other stock effects are there? I know of the common thunder sound and the 70s/80s telephone ring. Possibly those darn crickets chirping as well, they've been putting me off loads of shows recently trying to decide if it's always the same.

You know, I just realized now...
The sound effect was originally called "man being eaten by crocodile." Or something to that effect. Go Spielberg!

Treg Brown made a career out of compiling and using them for Warner Brothers back in the 1930s and '40s.
