Mildly morbid I guess, but it popped in my head just now, since the Simpsons have been around for 20 years a lot of guest stars have died since appearing on the show over the years.
Barry White, Johnny Cash, Johnny Unitas, Steve Allen, Rodney Dangerfield, Tito Puente, Joey Ramone, and Phil Hartman of course, but the list goes on.
Anyone else that stood out as a funny guest that has since passed on?

Linda McCartney as well. They paid tribute to her at the end of the U2 episode.

Jim Varney's my favorite gust star appearance ever. The carney episode written by Swartzwelder, one of the best.
Also there was Johnny Carson. He could pick up a car up over his head!

Bob Hope was on early in an early season (three or four, it's one I have the DVD of). George Harrison was on an episode as well, the B-Sharps I think. I just remember all three of the Beatles (who were alive when the Simpsons started) were on in different different episodes.

Not really to nitpick, but Phil Hartman had a recurring role rather than being a guest star.

He was credited as guest star for some of his early appearances.

We never saw what became of Tom Landry's hat. I fear the worst.

Werner Klemperer, who was Colonel Klink in Hogan's Heroes, was the guardian angel in one episode as Klink.

Was Dee Dee Ramone part of the Ramones when the ramones guest appearance was shot? If so then add him.

Ron Taylor(Bleeding Gums) Audrey Meadows(Bea Simmons) Jack Lemmon(Frank Ormand) And those were characters that died themselves in episodes. Also George Plimpton (himself in the spelling bee episode). He didn't die in the episode.
