Personally I don't give a damn whether they bled or not, it still would have sucked.

The sheer amount of weapons hurt it, especially since they kept popping right up; I felt like I was watching two people play SvR 2006 but neither of them wanted the match to end so they kept regaining stamina and bashing eachother with chairs. That was my problem with it as well. Especially as in during the build up the guy billed as the hardcore legend seems to have been put of the business for good by a flying chair drop from the top of the ladder through a table. However Undertaker carried on as if it was just another mid-match move. You obviously haven't followed the Undertaker for the last 18 years or even know what his gimmick is. He is supposed to be impervious to pain, that nothing affects him. Of cousre he is going to pop right up. Floeys gimmick is even close to that.

I feel this will end up being one of the "Other" HIAC matches, ie Triple H vs Nash, HBK or Jericho. A good match and certainly not in the dregs with DX vs McMahons, the 6 Man, Taker vs Bossman...but it didn't have the car-crash spectacle of Taker/Foley and it wasn't even CLOSE to being in the league of Taker/HBK or Taker/Brock.

There is NO way it will be one of the "Other" HIAC matches with the amount of memorable spots it had. People will remember the Spear through the cage, the Chokeslam through 2 tables, and the Chokeslam to "Hell." And the 6 Man HIAC wasn't bad! It had a hay truck and everything!

^^^^^^^^^^ Word! Hell In A Cell is supposed to be BRUTAL! I expected somebody to get busted open, Taker and Edge to get on TOP of the cell. Mick Foley has set quite a standard. You've been awfully disappointed for the last 6 years then with HIAC matches, as nobody has scaled the roof since then. Lesnar/Taker HHH/Nash HHH/HBK HHH/Batista Taker/Orton DX/McMahons and Show Batista/Taker And to the topic overall, I fail to see the issue so long as the match is a good one. It was a very brutal match anyway IMO.

Ok, I'm seeing a lot of praise for this match (match of the year, decade, best ever) and yes it had some nice spots and the ending was pretty cool with the firey pit of hell, but ... This was not a Hell in a Cell match, this was TLC with a cage. Seriously how many times did the cell get used in either a physical or mental way? A brief bit where Edge has face cheese gratered by Undertaker and the spear through it, that was it physically wise. Whilst psychologically no one was going to interefere (Vickie and her gang put Edge here and they don't want to mess with the Undertaker) and no one was trying to escape (Undertaker doesn't do running away, and Edge went all psycho so wasn't in running away mode either) So the cell was pointless. Also if this is a hell in a cell why was no one busted open? I mean I know they don't have to, but it is kind of expected in Hell in a Cell to have some blood. I'd easily argue you could have taken the cell away and the match would have been the same with out it. This isn't match of the year, decade or even the best Hell in a Cell (It's not even the best TLC). This was an average match with some cool spots, that's it. QFT.No blading. No "drag you down to hell with me." Taker was not taken to a new limit. The "Old Edge" barely seemed to figure into the match. Just a lackluster spotfest with a squash ending. And, may I add, that that was the ABSOLUTE DUMBEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN FROM WRESTLING. Yes, I am saying that's I felt it was dumber than anything to do with Kane, Eugene, Hornswoggle, Cena, Austin, Downfall Of WCW. [glow=red,2,300]A MAN THREW ANOTHER MAN INTO LITERAL, BIBLICAL HELL.[/glow]NO. NO WWE. NO. Not when you've built it this well. Not when you've set me up for something special. No. So, from what I've read so far this is the worst Cell match ever? Even worse than the Kennel From Hell and the WM XV one?? Also no, actually. It just wasn't better than any of the good ones. This was just kind of...Yknow, there. It didn't even really have a big match feel. The sheer amount of weapons hurt it, especially since they kept popping right up; I felt like I was watching two people play SvR 2006 but neither of them wanted the match to end so they kept regaining stamina and bashing eachother with chairs. I don't get PPVs but I liked that part when I heard about it.

Came here to post the same thing, it tried to be TLC and HIAC and did a lukewarm job at both.

If this was the first TLC in a cell, what do you call HHH Vs HBK?

I do wish they'd retire Hell in a Cell for a bit. The only way to make cell matches a real draw now would be to have a War Games.
Outside of the cage spots? Yes. On top? Yes. Thrown off the cage? Yes. Fire? Yes. Thumbtacks? Yes. Barbed wire? Yes. Tables? Yes. Ladders? Yes. Chairs? Absolutely.
The only gimmicky thing about the cell they haven't done a lot of are multi-man matches-- the 6 man cell and the DX/McMahon matches are it.
War Games, people. Gimme a War Games. The Elimination Chamber is some weak poor man's version.

I think the Cell was used to emphasis that there was no getting out for Edge. There was no where left to run for him and it made sense for him to turn it into his kind of match. A TLC match, so he'd have a chance.
I won't go as far as saying it's the match of the year or decade. But, it definitely deserves a second viewing and from that I'll compare to other highly praised matches like Flair/Michaels. It's hard to biasly judge a match based on one viewing, due to the freshness of it. I will agree that it did have that classic epic feel to it.

I posted another thread about this, but basically I think a lot of the fault lies with the design of the new cell. It's so ridiculously big, that it becomes redundant. You could have virtually had the exact same match without the cell even being there it was such a non-factor.
The old cell being lower, meant that guys could use the roof inside, to grab onto it. Even if nobody climbed to the roof, it was a realistic possibility that COULD happen. This new cell is so big, you KNOW it wont happen.
If they still had the old cell, Taker could have done the chokeslam to hell through the roof (ala HHH v Foley). THAT would have been a defining HIC moment. They wouldn't even need to have a pinfall after that... just say Taker won by KO or something. Imagine the visual of Taker on the roof of the cell, with flames shooting up through the ring... far better IMO

I couldn't help but be disappointed the match ended with a simple Tombstone I thought the match ended with Taker chokeslamming Edge through 2 tables, immediatley spearing him, followed by a skull-shot with a camera and a con-chair-to, and THEN the Tombstone piledriver...? Yeah Edge was brutilized before the Tombstone. But, people find a way to hate on everything and its no different than any other match different people have different opinions.

No. YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES!! Everyone seems to be pent up about the content of the actual match. All I can say is: look at the way the freaking thing ended!!! Does the WWE production team think that we're so concrete in our thinking that we need the flames coming out from under the ring to represent Edge's "trip to hell"? Can't sending Edge to "Hell" be metaphorical rather than literal? If they wanted to use fire why didn't they just have the Undertaker throw some lighter fluid in the hole and toss in a match? That would have made so much more logical sense than Edge being chokeslammed through the mat, have flames come out of the hole then have the commentary lackeys convince us that Edge had been "chokeslammed straight to Hell". WWE have done so well in producing believeable storylines recently and it was just a shame to see that happen. This alongside the Rey Mysterio/ Kane storyline have, for the first time in a long time, made me embarrassed to be a wrestling fan.
