We live in a world where nearly every movie that comes out ends in a BIG SHOCKER that most everyone in the theater saw coming. So my question to you, my fellow crappers, what are your favorite "swerve" endings? Which ones really caught you by surprise?
I started this thread because I just got through watching the first Saw movie. It had been a long time since I'd seen it, and I really just watched again for the ending. The movie totally built up that Zap guy as the jigsaw murderer and then it turned out that he was also trapped in the Jigsaw murderer's game. And then the fact that the real Jigsaw murderer was in the room with them the whole time blew my f***ing mind.
So what do you guys got?

I was only 10 so give me some slack, but The Sixth Sense's swerve just blew my mind, I did not see it coming.
If you count it as a swerve, Se7en's ending.
and who can leave out Fight Club?

The Usual Suspects. Somehow I'd avoided hearing about the twist before I finally saw it, and I have to say I never expected it. Really good film IMO.

First one that says HIGH TENSION gets kicked square in the nards.
That movie, along with THE VILLAGE, owns the title of WORST TWIST EVER.
On that note, I will nominate THE DEPARTED and THE USUAL SUSPECTS for their respective endings.

High Tension! When I saw that I was pissed I mean can someone explain it to me? I understand she was the killer but that means...what was the point?

But seriously, I have friends that defend that movie to the death as being the "shining star" of modern horror. I just don't get how they can like a movie that INSULTS the very audience that paid to see it by cheaply ripping them off and not only THAT, but the twist they used to rip the audience off....could NOT have physically occurred, thus further insulting the intelligence of the audience by asking them to buy into a line of garbage rationale like the one they used. Seriously, the ending of HIGH TENSION= John Cena somehow pinning HIMSELF in the Main Event of WrestleMania 25 to not only retain HIS title, but one he's not even in contention for. THAT's the ending of HIGH TENSION in a nutshell. Throwing out everything that's preceeded the ending, making what we just wasted two hours of our lives on POINTLESS.

High Tension! When I saw that I was pissed I mean can someone explain it to me? I understand she was the killer but that means...what was the point? Marie ("The Killer") was telling the story, Well "Her" version. She created The Guy, He doesn't exist. We don't know what really happened because we're getting the story from a bad source. It's alot like "The Hole".

'sleepaway camp' has a nice swerve ending to it....it's pretty grand. 'funeral home' also has a pretty decent swerve thrown into it as well. i know the thread title says there's spoilers here, but i'd rather keep my mouth shut and let folks watch and see for themselves than say what happened... ...that and i'm lazy and don't feel like typing the descriptions out.

I saw it the Summer it came out with one of my ex's. She was horrified the entire time. I was getting in to it actually. I love me some good violent horror deaths (decapitation by rolling cabinet anyone?). When the Russotastic SWERVE was revealed I honest to god sat there with my head in my hands until most of the credits had rolled by. I was digging it a lot up until then. Just goes to show 5 minutes can ruin 60+ entertaining ones.

I mean, it was LOVING the movie right up to the point of the SWERVE! and after it, just sat there, feeling the rage building in my gut. I seriously wanted to find out where Alex Aja lived and go to his house a la Stan and Kenny from South Park and demand my $9 back. Incidentally: www.cracked.com/article_15621_10-most-asinine-movie-twist-endings.htmlThe exact OPPOSITE of what this thread is about. And for the record, I think that Del Toro's ORPHANAGE has a GREAT swerve ending.
