Right, here's the story.
In 3 months time, my present phone contract is going to run out and I'm having telemarketers pestering me about this and telling me they'll do it.
'Screw it' I said to them (in my head) 'I'll do it myself'
So I'm trying to think about what phone I actually need. The first place I went to was Orange, just because of Orange Wednesdays (2 for 1 film tickets) and I looked around, but nothing really stood out for me. This was the first phone I was ever going to pay for on my own (this one I had being my mum's old one she gave to me) and I wanted to not regret it completly.
I started thinking soon after what I would actually need this new phone for. I like to call and I like to text, but I'm someone who wants to be involved in growing my website to as big as it can get so I need to be on the phone to people whether they be part of the writing and creative teams or potential guests and sponsers.
The thing I found whilst doing this whole project is that it is very easy to go and miss things that are important and miss people uploading something important. Until I get editors to each of my free spaces I have, I'll have to be the one consistantly on the ready (when I don't have classes ).
So I took a glance at some of the more fancier multimedia phones on the market and there are a couple that caught my eye. Not enough to get me to go crazy and purchase, but enough to keep an eye out.
Then, for the first time since the end of last term, I saw one of my friends who, as well, has his own media project which is going really well. I walked with him a bit and just chatted until he took out his secret weapon and one that I never thought I'd be able to afford.
That's right, he brought out the iPhone.
So there he was, talking to me about the features of what I thought was unaffordable. And it seemed really tempting. I mean, you can save RSS feeds, use the internet anywhere, email people anywhere. It seemed like something I needed mostly due to the fact that I wanted to do these things as well as contact people via the ol' voice to voice method.
Looking at this on the website, shock of shocks, it actually was pretty affordable. £35 a month, handset for £99 with 600 minutes and 500 texts. My present phone was like that so it wouldn't be too much of a farcry from what I already had...except it would be wider and bigger.
So I went to Carphone Warehouse and tested the thing out and really enjoyed it and I'm really considering getting it. When I got out, I asked my mum about it and she was fine with it (seeing as none of her money was going to it). But...there was a nagging doubt that I was going a bit too ambitious. I mean, what if I didn't even use it that much? It'd be a big waste of money if it went that way. And what about the problems I might have? I'm starting to doubt my decision.
To cut to the chase, when I spoke to someone else about it, I got told that a Blackberry might work better seeing as you can do more with it. I told her that, apparently, there was a £10 Blackberry charge along with the monthly rate. But she shoo'd it away, saying that's a Carphone Warehouse thing and not a network thing.
Then there's Google Android coming out at Christmas. Which I might be interested in, except for the £40 monthly charge.
Basically, I'm confused and muddled and once again, I need the help of the 'Crap.
Do I go with my instinct and try to get the iPhone sorted out? Do I go for a Blackberry? Or do I wait for another 3 months for my contract to properly expire and go from there?
I NEED HELP, CRAPPERS!!!
