Elias Koteas is great as Casey Jones. I think it's age fine. That is to say, I don't view it as anymore cheesy than when I saw it at the time.

Anyone who introduced the phrase "Two thumbs up" to the American Lexicon is hardly one to impugn the intelligence of anyone else.

Don't blame me.......that wasn't my opinion. An old review of the first Ninja Turtles film has Siskel and Ebert bashing this movie for some of the most hilarious reasons...from Siskel(R.I.P.) saying that it should have been more like Karate Kid (and have no humor) to Ebert upset that the film wasn't a bright and bouncy film full of cuddly love. They also insult kids when they say that kids only liked it because they weren't old enough to know a good film from a bad one at 5 years old....etc. These guys come up with tons of more crappy reasonings to hate this film....but don't take my word for it. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_kmgzcIF0lY&feature=relatedThe first "TMNT" movie was good (not perfect) in part because it had that same gritty tone of the comics. The movies started going to hell and a handbasket when the producers started dumbing things down to appeal to kids, who watched the cartoon. Hence, the turtles hardly use their weapons in the sequels, we get those Bebop and Rocksteady clones (Toka and Razar), Super Shredder (played by Kevin Nash), Vanilla Ice, and time travel elments (in the third movie). It also didn't help that Casey Jones wasn't in the second one and Judith Hoag didn't come back as April O'Neil. Yea Kevin Nash played the Super Shredder. Which explains how the Turtles don't even touch him and he gets injured (in this fatally, instead of just long enough to avoid jobbing on PPV) ;D I always kind of wished that it was Vanilla Ice that drand the mutagen and become Super Vanilla Ice. Say what you will about Vanilla Ice, but he was sure able to improvise lyrics based on the situation at hand (aswell as his back up band to provide the music, from his turntablist all the way to the keytarist).

The original stands up decently over time. It's nothing mind blowing, but its a really good kids movie, and one you can still watch without feeling like a complete tool.

Honestly, I liked the second one better, but the first one wasn't bad either.

I actually think this is a very very good movie with a lot of elements that can seem to be hidden. Sure it had a lot of comedy but that was mostly due to the studio wanting it to be PG.
I mean they said DAMN in it like five times!! YOu never see that in a PG movie now.
Movies like this and Point Break I think some people just don't get at all because they aren't paying attention to the storyline elements close enough.

Honestly, I liked the second one better, but the first one wasn't bad either. When I was younger I liked the second one better too. In fact I think it gets a lot more hate than it deserves. Up until the club scene with Vanilla Ice and Super Shredder I thought it was actually a pretty good movie.

It's been years since I've seen either movie, but I remember thinking the first one was pretty good, but the sequel was better. That's my stance on most movies, actually.

Usually most people like the original in a series. I don't think I've ever seen a sequel that was good as the first one.

I hated the third one, but if I'm smurfed up, the first two can be cheesy fun. And to lighten the mood ... I would have posted a more appropo clip of Slappy Squirrel going after a couple of film critics, but I couldn't find it. Edit: Oh cool, it looks like The Warrior and Phil Collins are dancing along to this clip ...

I've found with a lot(not all) of the movies I've seen, I liked the sequel better, like Batman Returns, Charlie's Angels Full Throttle, American Pie 2, ect. That's just me though.

Ya smurf movie critics that is all. I think that all the movie critics gave Star Wars sketchy reviews at first ... until it started to be a box office juggernaut. Then they changed their tune. I remember they blasted it for being a western in space, but that's just what we needed.

Never pay attention to old critics like that, these are the same critics who would say that The Dark Knight was "confusing" and the action sequences were "unrealistic".

And they would also say that Blade Runner was horrible then years later when it got a cult following Ebert changed his mind about that too.

I like the first one the most specifically because it's not campy/cartoonish. Of course there are still all sorts of cliches, but that's to be expected in a kid's movie.
As far as Secret of the Ooze, Tokka and Rahzar sucked, Keno was annoying, and Super Shredder was lame. Ninja Rap still rules though.
The less said about the third movie, the better.

Secret of the Ooze has my favorite opening of any movie...ever.
I consider the opening done at 1:25
