Sorry if this is like common knowledge among American Psycho fans, but this is suppose to be a black comedy right? Its a great movie so dont think Im bashing it. Its just really funny, in obviously intentional ways. I think I just answered my question, but wanted to know if its true.
My favorite is when Patrick is going through the revolving door near the end, and he sees the Janitor coming out the elevator, and he like hilariously panics and spins back around and shoots him. Oh and "...no Lewis. Its not me. Your mistaken."

They must have intended it to be funny. Either way it is the funiest movie I've ever seen.

It is a dark comedy but Bale does play him a little over the top...The book is nowhere near as campy but its also a little rambling...There is entire sections dedicated to some of the dialogue Patrick has in the movie regarding his taste on music and film...hell entire paragraphs spent detailing Patricks trips to return movies...They briefly homage this in the film as well...The best part about the entire film...which I love by the way since im a big Bret Easton Ellis fan is the documentarys on the dvd...very well laid out and detailed on how it explains the controversy the book caused towards women and the irony that a girl would helm the movie...

Thanks to that film, I can't ask anybody if they like Huey Lewis without seeming like a serial murderer.

It's an incredible book, the film is ok but it's the old fashioned cliche of the book being so much better.
The book is pretty funny itself depending on how you look at it - the absolute obsession with detail of peoples clothing and appearances, with long rambling graphic descriptions of suits, ties, their designers, what cologne they have on - everything - is a pretty funny idea in itself even though it comes off as really hard to read for some people.
There's some totally absurd moments in the book too involving peoples heads and certain body parts, some parts at the club like Patrick trying to understand rap music, the feed me a stray cat bit, and one of the guys going wild and jumping off a balcony, but mostly it's supposed to be a satire of yuppie culture and the obsession with wealth, greed and fashion, so i'd say it's defenitely supposed to be funny in parts.
Great book, get a copy if you can!

Great book, get a copy if you can! definitely agree...though im suprised in the movie that they left out detail regarding his relationship with his brother as well as detailing his time with Allison Poole...

Another huge irony of the movie: Gloria Steinem, who spoke out against the book, is Christian Bale's stepmother.

I have no opinion on this American Psycho.
THIS American Psycho, however, completely rocks:

Rules of Attraction anyone? That is another great movie. I saw it on HBO last semester at college and was completley blown away. I didnt realize until afterwards that the main character was his brother. Just a great movie about how messed up life and college life in particular can be. Funniest part was I was watching it with a friend and when Kip Pardue (sunshine from remember the titans) gets out of bed naked in his montage she yelled out "Eww I just saw Sunshine's penis"

I have yet to see Rules of Attraction or read the books to either film but I liked American Psycho nonetheless.

they also conviently left alot of the rampant drug use out of the film that was very very prevalent in the book
