I loved the PS2. I really did. Never before had I made such an investment in a single console.
But I have a 360 now, and it's pretty great. While I still on rare occasion return to my PS2 for certain gaming experiences (Tony Hawk's Underground, SmackDown HCTP), I haven't bought a any PS2 game, needless to say a new PS2 game, since before Christmas.
How much longer will new multi-platform games come out for the PS2?

Quite a while, for many reasons.
1) It is REALLY cheap to makes games for it now.
2) There is a rumor Sony is planning on revitalizing the PS2 to fight the Wii.
3) The PS2 makes a great place for new game developers to make games for(same goes for Wii, DS, and PSP. Basically the systems where graphics don't matter).

Really I think they should do it as long as it's commercially viable.

I think they will continue for a while. Games for the Dreamcast and Saturn were being produced long after the systems were scrapped over here. The PS2 has such a HUGE following to this day, that I don't see game production dying off for a long time. Unlike Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony doesn't want to force you into buying the next-gen (okay, current gen) system.

I'd like to see the PS2 keep on going just because it means certain publishers will go back to the backlog of previously-rejected games that either Japan-only or Europe-only, or "Just not in North America" releases, and increases the likelihood of us getting games with otherwise no chance of crossing the oceans, like ThunderForce 6.

Niche J-RPG titles have found a home on the PS2. As long as those keep selling, I think it will be fine for a while.

Really I think they should do it as long as it's commercially viable. Indeed. It's like how in Japan, Sega Saturn games went on wayyyy longer than it did here, even after Sony had pretty much won. I wouldn't be surprised if they still make dating sims for it.
