Okay, for a few months now I've been playing around with an idea for a story and have, more or less, decided to write it. In any case, I need some feedback on the general idea of the story, just in case it's too weird and/or cliche and I should go back to planning a new idea.
Note: The story itself was inspired by Frankenstein; it has a nameless monster roaming around and is also one of the important characters in the story.
Anyhoo, the story is this: the main character is hired to seek and destroy the nameless monster of the story. I did say the monster was based on the idea of Frankenstein's Monster, a re-animated being made from several dead body parts, but that's about it. In appearance, the monster is far from hideous, and more close to an angelic appearance, or at least a dead body prepared for a funeral. The mind however is a bit unstable, not exactly a psychopath but a but unstable nevertheless. My idea is that his memories and understanding of the world had been based on books, more importantly the memoirs of the person he was supposed to replace. That's pretty much the reason why he escaped, and for some reason going after several people that were linked in the memoirs.
That's the basic idea of the story, at the very least. I've got two choices on the setting, though; either fantasy-steampunk/weird-west, or somewhere-close-to-modern-times. Any feedback? or is it back to the drawing board for me?

I got bored waiting so I decided to write it in any case. If I ever finish some of it I'll post it here if anyone is curious; but any feedback on the idea itself is appreciated~

I think Steam punk / Wierd west would be more interesting location than modern times.
