What actor do you think has put on the best and most creepy portrayal of a serial killer on screen?
There was a miniseries in the 80's, the Deliberate Stranger, that had actor Mark Harmon playing Ted Bundy in a very effective and credible performance as the infamous serial killer. It's still chilling to watch even though I've seen it many many times.

Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter is a favorite of mine.
Michael Rooker In Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer is pretty awesome (to say the least).
Although many hated the movies, I loved R.Lee Emery as Sheriff Hoyt (I'm an Emery mark without a doubt).
I know I'm leaving a lot of names of this list...

Robert De Niro in Cape Fear
without a doubt creepy.
Vic and Mal were also classic and cool but creepy serial killers that need note.

I actually think Brian Cox was more scary as "Lecktor" in Manhunter.

Can we count Heath Ledger as the Joker?

I'm with DiG.. Hopkins' is the more iconic and 'cooler' portrayal, but Cox's I think was actually better as far as 'creepy' goes.
Harmon was good as Bundy as mentioned.
I still plan on writing my Dennis Haskins as serial killer screenplay. Tell me Mr. Belding as killer wouldn't mess ya up!

While it might not be creepy but I though Charlize Theron was brilliant as Aileen Wuornos in Monster.

Michael Rooker in "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" is one of the best.
Mark Harmon did a good job in "The Deliberate Stranger" as Ted Bundy. So did Brian Dennehy in the TV movie "To Catch A Killer" as John Wayne Gacy.
And, although he technically not a serial killer, Steve Railsback's portrayal of Charles Manson in "Helter Skelter" is one of the most chilling roles ever on TV.

Personally I though Dahmer did a great job as the definitive Pozzo from the Broadway version of "Waiting For Godot."

Can we count Heath Ledger as the Joker? I am. I'll also mention John Carroll Lynch as Arthur Leigh Allen. I think he also stood in as the Zodiac Killer during the murder scenes. Anyway, Lynch was just so creepy in his performance.

Can we count Heath Ledger as the Joker? No no you can't. Do kids these days even know what a serial killer is? The joker was not a serial killer, mass murder maybe but not a serial killer.

I got a kick out of Jake Busey as one, less creepy, and more Herostratus, killing for infamy.

Tony Curtis in The Boston Strangler is a marvelous performance in a rather mediocre movie.
Kevin Spacey's John Doe from Se7en.

Robert Mitchum as Harry Powell in "Night Of The Hunter". He only has one confirmed kill in the film but you know there are others we don't know about.
