Can we count Heath Ledger as the Joker? I'd say he's a mass murderer, not a serial killer.

Peter Lorre as Hans Beckert in Fritz Lang's "M" is absolutely chilling...

I'd say he's a mass murderer, not a serial killer. Yeah, a mass murderer/spree killer is just different than a serial killer, from my point of view. From a technical standpoint the thing that separates serial killers from other types of multiple murderers is a cool down or stalking period, also serial killers generally have SOME kind of ritual whether its the type of victim or the method of killing them. Spree killers tend to be the people who "just lose it", OR in some cases are groups of people like those stupid "wilding" stories like 10 years ago that were popping up groups of young people beating random people to death. Mass murderers in my opinion are the worst because they tend to be people who kill as a byproduct of something else they do. Robbers, Hitmen, High Level Drug Dealers, Corrupt Military. People who kill because they can, and its easy. Did my junior high school theme on serial killers.

While it might not be creepy but I though Charlize Theron was brilliant as Aileen Wuornos in Monster. yeah man. And are we counting fictional killers too? If so Then I'm voting Jason.

What actor do you think has put on the best and most creepy portrayal of a serial killer on screen? There was a miniseries in the 80's, the Deliberate Stranger, that had actor Mark Harmon playing Ted Bundy in a very effective and credible performance as the infamous serial killer. It's still chilling to watch even though I've seen it many many times. I loved this miniseries and Mark Harmon was great in it. There was another Ted Bundy movie a few years back starring Michael Reilley Berke who did a great job as well. Since it wasn't made for TV, they got to show a lot more brutality and it was pretty disturbing in some scenes. Like when he was having sex with his girlfriend and he was telling her to lie there with her eyes open as if she were dead.
