I just had my first major problem with it. I'm pretty sure it was my fault, as I had to restart for the first time in forever to replace DivX, so I removed another program and replaced it with one that does the same thing as I didn't like the first.
Went to the bathroom, came back and the thing was locked up with driver issues.
I found the DVD, but Dell didn't wanna give me the option to boot from the DVD, so I F12'ed that crap and repaired it myself. It took a matter of minutes, I lost nothing.
Oddly enough, it's right around a year old (a little over). I have another year on the warranty as I got the extension it from Wal-Mart.
Now granted, I am somewhat of a comp whiz, and maybe this is just a temporary fix, but wow... this beats the hell out of the days of '98 and 2000 (I only used XP for a few months).

I've had XP installed for about 5 days. No problems at all. Even uninstalling was easy

I like Vista. Yeah, I said it. Yeah, I installed Vista Home Premium a while back, and it's actually gotten the bugs worked out of it for the most part.

I like Vista. Yeah, I said it. With the exception of 2 people that had router issues (Vista was not compatible with their home network), everybody I personally know that Hates Vista has never even seen it. And I'm in IT and deal with a large amount of Computer Users.

For a standard user who just likes to surf the internet and download music it's fine. But there are still lots of driver problems, older computers don't have powerful enough hardware to run it and the OS is very bloated. I'll stick with Ubuntu ;D

Vista is terrible.
The epitome of "let's make complicate what used to be easy, while adding a lot of virtually useless yet eye-candy thingies".
Not to mention its hardware requirements are insane, just for doing the EXACT SAME stuff XP (and 2000) used to do with half or 1/4 of power.
I'll stick with XP as long as I can, hoping Windows 7 won't suck that much.

I don't use it at home. I'm a gamer, and it was more work getting stuff to work on Vista than it was trying to hack it into Linux. But I primarily use XP. It's a great gaming OS. And I love DOSBox. Let's me bust out the Oldies that don't work anymore.

Im an IT specialist with a degree, A+ cert, and multiple Microsoft certs, and personally...I use Linux...The system requirements are ridiculously low and the open source community has mirrored just about every expensive program into a free counterpart...I loath piracy as I think it kills small business...

I have Vista on a laptop and I hate it. It usually takes 5 minutes to boot up (my desktop with XP boots up and is running in under a minute), and it crashes randomly and without warning every couple days. I believe the reason for the crashes is that the drivers aren't 100% compatible. Problem is Vista was on the laptop when I bought it, and the drivers were already there also. Plus I really don't think the system resources are robust enough for Vista.
I also am a Computer tech geek, so I did my best to clean up the laptop as best I could. I don't have it running anything as processes that I don't need, and there really are a minimum of startup applications. I really just think it boils down to Vista being too bloated and cumbersome for my laptop's hardware.
My other computer's a desktop running XP, and I have no plans to change that. I don't doubt that Vista is better now than it was at launch, and to be fair XP was pretty buggy when it was first launched too. But XP's been tweaked and basically perfected by now, so I'd just assume use that.

To be fair, my comp is fairly top of the line for running Vista and was all factory built and stuff. I don't know if I'd stick Vista in a comp I built myself (but really... those days have passed pretty much from the late 90's, unless you're just adding a card or two). But yeah, this thing is dual core AMD Athlon X2, so it has no problems handling Vista. I keep programs running to a minimum out of habit, but I think the thing has crashed maybe once or twice in over a year (and at least one of them was power related). I keep it powered up 24/7 as well.
Still, nothing touched 2000, imo. As long as you had drivers that would work (and most XP's would), it was about the most stable I've ever dealt with. I had a AMD 450 then a Pentium 600 and finally a Pentium 800 all running it with no problems. I know at one point, I had the 600 running it for over six months straight and using it everyday without ever powering down or restarting it.
