Right, so here I am taking a walk to the neaby shop with my newborn son who was in his buggie. On the way i have to cross a main road at a peak time in the morning (Think Human Frogger!). Anyway, I usually cross at a particular point but i thought 'today ill cross here instead'. At the same time some kid on thier way to school crosses at the same point i do. Once im across i hear a skid and a crash, i look back and the kid hitting the ground, a car with some stupid teenage 'boy-racer' driving had come speeding out of the corner without stopping at the junction...
If that was me, id have been the one with minor injuries in hospital and my baby son would likely have been dead. Why on this day did i decide to cross at a different point when i cross at the other one almost every day?!
Im sure this isnt the only example in my life of a similar situation, anyone expereinced anything similar?

That's crazy becuse it was almst like you upset the balance in the world and it prepared to correct itself.
There are a lot of strange "coincidences" in life that we ignore and there are some we see and imediately question on the spot. I've had a ton of them this year where it seemed like I predicted them before it happened or maybe it was because I overanalyzed a situation so much that it felt like I was already there.
Who knows why things happen the way they do. I just know that if you don't take the time to notice that things happen for more reasons than you think, then you are undersestimating the world around you and your ability to reason higher than you are expected to.
I always say, "People don't disappoint me, It's my fault that I expected different." You read that to mean more than one thing.

Yea the kid is ok as far as i know. I stayed with him till the ambulance came, he seems all good, broken arm at worst i think.
I like that theory 'Magic', and the world just seems to have its ways?!

I think the reality is the world is basically an infinite number of chain events set in motion by seemingly random occurences, most of which go unnoticed until one so dramatically effects you that you have no other explanation than to consider it an impossible coincidence. Right now a teenager is likely asking himself why he needed to decide to speed on this day, the kid on the bike is likely asking himself why he decided to cross then and there and you, well, you're here asking this, no? When you take time to step back and consider every factor at play, there's just so much that happens in an instance, even localized to one city block, its impossible to define.
That said, it seems there has to be something more to these situations than just dumb luck. Whether it be divine intervention, some sort of 6th sense gained through years of evolution or any other number of things is another discussion for another board.
Glad you and your child are ok, though.

I belive a band named the Splenders had a song about something like this, and the lyric went "I think God can explain."

Twisted.
I believe in free will, but I also believe that some things are pre-destined to happen. I guess you can't be both right? Anyway yeah. I agree with the above posters, it looked like it some sort of cosmic, balancing the world type of thing. "Well, if you cheated death, this kid won't." Very Final Destination like.

I dont mean to get into a religious debate but what of those that arent religious? How can we explain it? Since I fit into this category of the "Non religious". let me take a stab at this. There is a world you know in which you were born into, raises you, and is known as familiar: Your up bringing and what you learned from childhood to adulthood. What You are accustomed to. Your everyday life. You normal understanding of the environment around you are. Like where you are the safest even if you aren't Then there is the world that exist around but you may have very limited to no experience in but can either be familiar or totally ignorant to. It depends if your mind is open enough to think out side of the box. For example: The things that challenge your acquired knowledge. Beginning to comprehend things on a global scale and not just what you see and hear in you area. Starting to relate to the complete opposites when it comes to people and etc. Then there is the world that is most likened to third world contries in that you never thougth thing could be this bad. Even with what the worst America has to offer, it couldn't compare to places over seas. The beyond your wildest imagination stuff. Then there is a world where it is a state of arrogant bliss. Where you are aware of things around you but you are to well off to care. The epitome of selfishness and self absorbance. Then there is a world where you have the perfect balance of all the places mentioned. This can be the most horrible place to be because finding happiness is the hardest thing to do. It's like you are so close but distant to all of the other different worlds that you can relate to them and tell them about themselves but they would look down upon you because they feel like you assume that you are better than them. Or that you appear with the innocence that they lost so you a merely a child to them even though you've made more sense of things then they would give the time to hear. I'm 26 and eveyone I meet whether youger or older natruallt assume that I'm not even 21. And they are surprised when I talk to them. Hell, One time ealier this year I made my mother cry because she couldn't believe I thought the way I did. It was a sense of pride that I've never seen from her. We talked about male and female relationships, her marriage to my father, my current female problems and life in general. I had this coversation with this guy that was in his mid fifties who had did a lot of traveling and he talked to me about what he had been through in his lifetime. Now I respected what he had to say and took interest in a lot of what he had to say. He tried to pick my brain sbout a lot of things that I manage to suprise him with. The only thing that struck me as odd was that most of the time, people like that always have the impression tha younger people couldn't understand their point of veiw. Now I know that there are certain things that I will we will never experience. 2008 is taotally different from 1968 which is totally different from 1908. But it's not like you can't grasp some concepts if you have the time and will to explore yourself. He made some good points but I looked at him like my mind at my age is where you mind age you age when it came to the majority our conversation. Saying the "worlds" are my way of saying mindstates. It's like men will never know how it feels to be raped, impregnated, and left to die by some man who claimed that he love them. But it doesn't mean that he isn't able to understand the level of anger, disgust, and helplessness a woman feels. It's about the comprehension of attacting opposites. You can be just as psychologically damaged by watching someone fall to there death thinking you could have done something to prevent it when you couldn't. You get what I'm saying. I got to a point in my life where I realized that there are far more questions that I need to ask and there are more answers than lead to believe. I also believe that there are things that you can't change. The result is in how you handle the situation and that you know your options and consequences. I don't over think everything because I like to cut loose sometimes but when I have my downtime I like to try to enhance my brain the way schools, parental guidance, and organized religion didn't. I'd love if this thread stayed alive. PLEASE MODS LET US KNOW IF WE ARE GOING TO FAR INTO THIS BEFORE YOU AXE THIS THREAD!!!!

I dont mean to get into a religious debate but what of those that arent religious? How can we explain it? Even if you were to believe in an entirely random universe, where "dice rolls" are a factor in everyday life things like this would happen thousands of times a day. The variables alone are enough to give a mathematician a severe migraine. Whatever meaning you think this event has, is whatever meaning it does have. Existence is perception, perception is existence.
