so i recently lost Sky + due to money issues and now I have to get used to recording Raw and NBA on my DVD player. I have a Samsung VR336 and it turns out it only accepts -RWs and -Rs when I when only have +RWs. i have a shitload of -Rs but I want to be able to rewrite it.
anyway my question is: in idiot's terms what is the difference between -RWs and -Rs and +RWs and +Rs

Well, the difference between the R and RW on either side is just like CDs -- the R allows a one-time recording, while the RW will allow you to erase the disc and record over it several times (as long as you don't finalize the disc).
As for + and - I have no idea. It just seems to be the format that various recorders use, but I've never really explored the differences between the two.

-R is better than +R, as it seems to be able to be read by more players and more people use it, but that's about it.
