I have been having problems with my DVD recorder lately. It is a Phillips brand (if that helps). Anyways it was working fine up until about a week ago. It won't let me record any programs from my DVR (directv). I used to be able to put anything I wanted to on DVD. Now I get this error message that this program is not able to be recorded. Anybody have any idea on what the problem could be.
Edit: I went to Phillips site and the error message means that the program is copy protected. My problem with that is I am trying to put shows on dvd that I have been doing so for over a year and now all of a sudden I can't. So with one problem solved, is there any way to get around this or do I just have a really expensive dvd player now?

It may have to do with something called a broadcast flag, which is defined as follows:
"The term broadcast flag refers to various proposals to add copy protection to broadcast DTV streams in order to prevent devices which recognize the flag from capturing certain content."
From what I could tell, it seems preety recent.
As to how to get around this, I don't know. Even if I did I wouldn't say how to since mentioning it here could potentially violate forum rules.

Thanks, that helps out some. I think I just may try and sell it and use the profits to go and get a Blu-Ray player. I mean its a good dvd player, it does a 1080p upconvert, so it just seems to me it may do someone else better than it is doing me.
