Because he is very over and despite what many smarks seem to think, he can put on very entertaining matches. Especially at the big shows.

Batista gets loud pops, no matter what he does/says, so he'll not be away from the Title Hunt for a long while, and rightfully so.
In kayfabe it's because he's powerful and wins his #1 contendership matches.
P.S. he may be in his fourties, but he hasn't been wrestling since his teens, ulike other top guys, so in terms of ACTUAL years of career, he's much younger than his age. I can see him going on for at least a decade.
P.P.S. the "Batista is unhappy" bits were most likely smarkbait of the worst kind, so I wouldn't give any credit to those rumours. For some reasons (his size and his fast rise to the top) he's disliked by "smart fans" and "real fans of real wrestling", so some glorified blogger had to make him look bad.

Why is it odd? Because he's not Mr.technical wrestler or has his own internet show on WWE.com? No more along the lines of lacks any kind of charisma, is extremely boring to watch in the ring, and after 3 years of being on top still cant cut a promo He's not really boring, he might be boring if you dislike the smashmouth power brawler style. His in-ring matches against top caliber guys have been awesome. (Booker sucks nowadays). Really in this day and age, if you looked like Batista all you have to say is you'll kick somebody's ass. He's lucky he's also got a deep rough voice

It's not just giving great promos, it can be the guy's look (which he has), or the guy's in-ring mannerisms (he does fire people up when he shakes the ropes, etc.). Why do people think that good promos are the only measure of charisma? If that were true, Hogan wouldn't have gotten over as much as he did, Sid would not have gotten over, and on and on. I think I've said this before, but no one who has gotten really over is uncharismatic. No one.

Because he is just like Cena in that he has a lot of fans and has the look of a world champion, but unlike Cena... Dave can't wrestle.

I don't know. Even for a power guy, he's just not very good. That's my opinion, anyway. For example, what's the deal with his 'spear'? Is that not the weakest thing ever? Edge makes it look more brutal than Batista, and his already appears to be a running hug.

Well, like with Punk in ECW, he wins a lot of qualifying matches. The answer though is that he's got a lot of fans, and a really impressive look. He's good enough at his job to be a surefire for any empty slot in a main event. He's not my favorite, but I couldn't justify shutting him out, either. It'd be like AWA's treatment of Hogan. lets not be hasty here, what has hurt Batistas credibility..at least on this boardis th way King Bookers reign was handled if the main event scene is dominated by the one guy always has the title belt..fair enough..hes the champ.. it is another thing to constantly have the same challenger 99% of the time I mean the guy main evented the SD! side of ppvs from summerslam 2006 till i believe Armaggeddon 2007..but most of those times he was the challenger compare it to say HHH or Cena who had long ME runs..they were the champions..its expected plus he has a in ring persona that doesn't seem to really click with his role as a face its just became a running joke

Because the fans like him for some odd reason. Why is it odd? Because he's not Mr.technical wrestler or has his own internet show on WWE.com? Yeah, because that's what I meant entirely. It's like you have ESPN or something. I find it odd because Batista has no special qualities about him. He brings nothing unique to the table. His look is generic, his moves are generic, his music is generic, and his one-sentence promos are generic. He's like an amalgam of every single jacked up, "intense", power wrestler that's stepped through the curtains over the years. Forgive me for being tired of the Goldberg condition.

He has no special qualities and he's the prototype of Generic Hoss, yeah... That's the reason he's been getting pops on par with guys like HHH, HBK and Cena for the last three years... Geez, you're totally entitled not to like him, or to find him boring and mediocre, but it's obvious your personal perception is not what people in the audience think of Batista.

And Jeff has had quite a few too...although it's extremely well-known why he hasn't had more (or a title win).
Batista is consistantly getting amongst the largest pops of anyone in the company at the moment. That, and the fact he looks like an ass-kicker, is what is getting him kept in the main event mix.
He's also capable of very good stuff indeed. But mainly, the two reasons above.

because all you have to do is make the champ angry in order to get a title shot, and batista's mean to all the main eventers. i still haven't forgiven him for interrupting khali's dance party to celebrate his WHC win. that was just nasty.
