i just found out that my dad has stage 4 cancer... i dont know much but i know its in his lungs and im absolutely devasted. Im 23 and Ive never had to deal with anything like this and I dont know how I will. I have a hard time handling small things in life and I dont know how i will handle this. I know you have to keep hope and stay positive, but ive done some researching online and its breaking my heart to learn more and more about it..
I dont know why im posting this here but i know people here have gone thru certain things and I can use any help I can get.... i can hardly breathe right now

I'm sorry to hear that. I have had family members with cancer but I was not around them so I cannot tell you what to do, think, etc. I'm sure there are other people here who could help you much better than I ever could. Sorry to hear this.

Take care of yourself, and I hope for the best for you and your family.
You got a place of people that are willing to listen here; take advantage of that.
Again, take care.

I deeply sympathize with you. My pops has a cancer scare. Like Latino said, you know us clowns can have a serious side and we're with you.

Try to remain positive for the moment but also try to be prepared incase the worst happens. I've seen what can happen if you don't prepare beforehand.

Lots of us here (me included) have dealt with family/friends having cancer. You can talk to us about it.

Cancer runs in my family so I know the feeling. What I've learned is to just try to stay strong because your dad is going to need you and your family in a case like this. I know it's hard but try to stay as calm as you can because that is what he needs. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am sorry to hear of your news, It’s important to stay strong not only for yourself but for your dad and your other family members but at the same time remember you’re only human and it is ok to be upset and vent to somebody if it feels like things are getting too much for you to handle because this is better than bottling it up inside. This forum is a great place to do that because anytime of the night or day there is always somebody here to talk to.
You and your family are in my thoughts, stay strong.

little update and im not sure if this is the truth but its what im being told.
my dad is an alcoholic and they found something by his liver as well but not sure yet what it is...he has stage 4 cancer but amazingly(what my family is telling me ) is the only place they see it is in his right Lung, up until today when they found whatever by his liver
im very hopefully that even though its stage 4, it hasnt spread and thats what im hearing! It ISNT in his Bones, or near his brain! Im praying that whatever they found by his liver is something else... but im really hopefully about hearing its only in his one lung
my dad is a funny guy though... hes smoke and drank forever and i guess one thing he kept saying was how he didnt wanna lose his hair cause hes 50 and it wont grow back.. hes also gained 6 pounds since being in the hospital
keep me in your prayers please, but i had to share the little bit of good news Ive heard... please pray that its ONLY in his one lung.. then he can start the chemo or whatever the next step is... im trying to stay positive

You sound pretty positive, man.
Continue to take care of yourself, and it sounds like promising news.

Hey man, I am in the same situation but it is with my Mom - who has stage 4 metastasized gallbladder cancer.
I've been through what you're experiencing so drop me a PM if you want. I'll try to check this thread on and off.

I've had family members and friends who have had cancer. It's not fun. Best thing to do is visit with them as much as you can, talk to friends or family about how you feel and if your religous, say a prayer.
I hope your dad makes it. It looks bad, but you never know.

What do you do? You comfort the sick and dying. The Irish have a saying "you aren't really a man until you have buried your own father." Look, you can't expect to be fully ready for this, but everyone who has preceded you has faced both death and loss, it's a part of life that you are capable of bearing. All you can really do is use the precious time you have well, mourn the dead and comfort the dying grieving, and hope for a better life in the hereafter.
