I thought that Costas hated wrestling because of the so called phoniness and otherwise low brow nature behind the spectacle. If I remember correctly, he on one "NBA on NBC" telecast, chastised Karl Malone for participating in a WCW pay-per-view event alongside Dennis Rodman. And of course, their was the classic appearance by Vince McMahon on Costas' HBO show "On the Record" in which Costas criticized Vince over the then recent angle of him forcing Trish Stratus to strip and do humilating things in the ring. I wonder what Costas would say about some of Ric Flair's classic promos from the '80s about taking women to space mountain.

He probably did it for the mon-aay just like Steve Alenn, former host of the Tonight Show, who appeared at one of the early Wrestlemanias, and then joined the PTC in the late 90s

Everyone thinks that Bob Costas hates wrestling, and I thought that too at one time, but nothing can be further fro the truth.
Bob Costas is Mr. Sports, and yes, pro wrestling is included on that list. Bob is a big wrestling fan. I'm sure most people remember his short little promo during the build-up to Wrestlemania 19 when he talked about the Hogan/Vince match, but that was used as a short clip, but in actuality is was a decent length interview with Costas about pro wrestling.
Not only is Costas a fan, but he bragged about one time where he actually called a match, and did play by play, but put over the other greats like McMahon himself and Gorilla Monsoon as the greats.
Bob Costas has always been a fan of pro wrestling, just not the shock tv, easy-way-out style that the WWE used during the attitude era. Costas understands the work styles of the wrestlers, the inside nature of the business that we here wouldn't know ourselves, the psychology (why he's a Hogan fan), ect...
