Previous ThreadThe playoffs start early for a number of teams in Week 17: - Dallas wins and they're in. All they have to do is beat an angry Philadelphia team on the road. Piece of cake... - San Diego vs. Denver - AFC West on the line - The Patriots need good teams to lose to bad teams. - NFC North, NFC South, and AFC East still undecided. - And much, much more! Some teams will emerge triumphant; they will drink naught but champagne, while their opponents taste bitter defeat in this oft cruel game. Should be an exciting, nerve-racking, expletive-filled weekend.

Doesn't Baltimore need a win to get the final AFC Wild Card spot?
And what's the situation with the NFC South Championship? If Atlanta wins and Carolina loses do who wins the title?

How can you not get excited for a weekend like this weekend? More or less the real first round of the playoffs in a lot of ways. Granted, I'll be stuck with Bengals/Chiefs for the first portion, but I have to see which game I'm getting on FOX.
Pains me to say it, since I don't think they even deserve to sniff the playoffs after that embarrassment to football at the end of the Baltimore game, but I think the Boys win and get in. Broncos won't be so lucky. Already had a victory handed to them back in Week 1 or 2 against San Diego, and if San Diego is as hyped as they looked in Tampa yesterday, the Broncos are about to get rolled over. Dolphins/Jets .... now that's a little tougher.

Atlanta wins the division and gets a 1st round bye if they beat St. Louis next week, and Carolina loses to New Orleans. If Baltimore wins, they're in. They could also lose and get help from the Dolphins and Pats both losing. And I'm pretty sure Minnesota wins the Central if they beat the Giants next week, which is very likely if NY decides to rest anyone who's even slightly hurt. Broncos won't be so lucky. Already had a victory handed to them back in Week 1 or 2 against San Diego, and if San Diego is as hyped as they looked in Tampa yesterday, the Broncos are about to get rolled over. Speaking of which, I wonder if Ed Hochuli's schedule is open on Sunday Night... ;D

Broncos placed RBs Selvin Young (ruptured disc in neck) and P.J. Pope (torn hamstring) on injured reserve, ending their seasons.
And They're the sixth and seventh backs to be placed on Denver's I.R. list in 2008.

Plaxico Burress is being sued in civil court by a Miami woman who alleges he was responsible for a May car crash that left her with neck and back injuries.
The woman says Plax rear-ended her on Florida's Turnpike and is asking for over $15,000. The civil suit is more bad PR and proof of Burress' reckless behavior, but won't affect the criminal charges against him in New York.

After a "mutual" agreement, Jay Zygmunt is out as Rams general manager effective immediately.
Bengals RT Stacy Andrews tore his right ACL and potentially other ligaments in the team's Week 16 win over the Browns.

Man I hope we beat New Orleans, because Atlanta isn't losing to the Rams. Only problem is we're playing in New Orleans and the NFC South has been unstoppable at home this year, particularly against other NFC South oppenents.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP)—Add this to the growing list of Plaxico Burress’ problems: getting in a car crash and not having insurance on his nearly $140,000 Mercedes-Benz.
The suspended New York Giants wide receiver was sued last week in Florida’s Broward County Circuit Court for rear-ending a woman in May.
Compounding the Super Bowl star’s defense, according to a document provided by the woman’s attorney, is the fact his car insurance lapsed three days before the crash. A letter from Allstate says Burress neglected to pay his premiums.
Burress’ attorney, Adam Swickle, declined comment.
Burress is still serving a team suspension for shooting himself Nov. 29 in a nightclub with an illegally carried handgun. Burress shot himself at the Latin Quarter when he accidentally pulled the trigger on the .40-caliber Glock that was in his pants after fumbling a drink.
Teammate Antonio Pierce took the 31-year-old who caught the winning pass in the Super Bowl to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center for treatment.
Burress pleaded not guilty and was released on $100,000 bail. He is due back in court March 31.
He was placed on the team’s suspended/non-football injury list, and the NFL Players Association filed a grievance. The union said the Giants violated the collective bargaining agreement when they placed Burress on that list, suspended him for the final four games of the regular season and fined him an additional week’s salary for conduct detrimental to the team.

Just noticed that Dallas/Philly got pushed back to 4:15. I was somewhat hopeful that I wouldn't have to watch it. Now I have no choice.

NFC South Situation:
* NFC South Champion = #2 seed and guarenteed bye week
* Carolina just needs to beat New Orleans and clinch the NFC South
* Atlanta needs to beat St. Louis and have New Orleans defeat Carolina to clinch the NFC South

So the Vikings need to cheer for the Packers tonight. And if the Patriots beat the Bills then they (and their fans which include me) will have to cheer for the Jets.....I feel so dirty just saying that. I think I need a long shower.

I am just now able to enter an NFL thread. The Steelers game yesterday was just.. just... no words can describe it. I only hope we meet the Titans again in the playoffs. Going to shove a Terrible Towel up their collective asses.

You know, I'm a die hard Packers fan. But I'm actually rooting for them to...lose..against...the...Bears just because I hate the Vikings that much more.

After watching the two 1 v. 2 matchups, I have to say that, between the two, Carolina has the better chance of winning the second time. That game was extremely close until the bitter end. It really could have gone either way.
Pittsburgh's problem is their style is too close to Tennessee's this season, and Tennessee can play that style better than anyone. Plus, Tennessee's defense was actually playing without their two best defensive linemen. They already couldn't stop them this week, so I can't imagine that changing.

You know, I come from Northern Wisconsin, and are a Packer fan as well. I suppose if I lived in the south, I would think what you just wrote was sacrilege ... but since I live in the north, I view the Vikes with as much vitriol (if not more) than you do. My thoughts going into tonight's game was pretty much that I didn't care if they beat the Bears or not, but they better not f***ing lose to the Lions on Sunday ... But unfortunately, I could see that happening ...
