To those confused by the title, I am referring to when a wrestler appears on a PPV poster, but does not appear at the advertised event.
I was thinking of this while looking at the Cyber Sunday poster which features CM Punk. He will only appear in a match if the fans vote him in, otherwise no.
Can you think of any others?

Kane was on the poster for ONS this year, and all we saw of him that night was the old "watching his future opponent on TV in the locker room" shot after the #1 Contender's Match. It's happened to him a few other times recently too, I think.

...I really didn't even know Punk was an option for anything.

Even if Punk doesn't wrestle, he'll still be there. They always have the three choices on hand backstage on camera for the audience to see.

I miss when PPV posters advertised the main event matches.
Though with the style of booking these days, you could simply copy and paste for 2-3 months at a time sadly.

I remember in 2001 at Vengeance, i'm not sure if he was on the poster, but I remember the ads for the PPV being "the return of Triple H". And he wasn't even at the PPV and returned a few weeks later on Raw.

Kane was all over the website for Judgment Day 2000 (spelt incorrectly might I add), the poster was a big close up of his face and the menu turned your cursor into a little Kane mask.
Kane didn't wrestle that night or even make an appearance on screen.

I was expecting him to return and screw over Jericho and we can have Rock vs. Austin for the Undisputed Championship and Austin wins and me the eleven year old mark would mark the f*** out! Great way to crush all the dreams of eleven year old marks WWE!

HHH at Vengeance 2001 was the big example, it was entirely promoted around him, posters, commercials and whatnot, yet he didn't appear at all.
Hell, the entire arena was chanting "TRI-PLE-H!" like crazy!

Anyone remember how Jackass on the early posters for Summerslam 2007? Or Rey on Great American Bash 2007?

People miss Cena? Wow.
Anyway, the biggest example I can think of is the aforementioned Triple H one for Vengeance '01. I remember him discussing that on his dvd "The Game". I recall one where The Undertaker was on the poster, but wasn't really doing anything on the show. I can't recall which it was though. Yeah, and the Rey Mysterio one for Summerslam last year was weird too.

I, too, miss Cena. I genuinely like the guy, and I think he adds star power.
Kane is like king of posters which do not reflect the main event. He's typically either in the midcard or not there at all. I guess he's just got such a great look, they like to use him for a lot of these.
