I thought that they requested the break up.
I remember reading that Domino wanted to go out on his own cause he thought the gimmick was holding him back.
Oops.

The idea that they didn't have charisma, Domino especially, is way off the charts. Find them in Youtube, and check out Cherry's debut video.
The problem Deuce n' Domino had is their characters were developped in OVW, so everything 3 dimensional about them wasn't viewed by the audience. How Deuce n' Domino got together was in OVW, and controlled and booked by Paul Heyman.
They weren't just greasers. Domino was an Andrew Dice Clay type of character, and that could have been taken in many different directions, and heat could have been gotten in many different ways. He could have been funny, but funny in a mean kind of way, where he would crack jokes on people, but you would be like, ehh, that's not right.
Deuce was the vegas card shark, but was revealed as Jimmy Snuka's son. Deuce Shade and Dice Domino had similar gimmicks, but it actually took awhile for Domino to convince Deuce to join him as the Throwbacks. When he did join him, Jimmy Snuka came on television to try and talk Deuce out of being with people like Dice Domino and Cherry Pie, but Deuce ended up turning on his own father to stay with the Throwbacks.
Creative can't be completely blamed. In the ring, the responsibility in getting over is up to the talent, in almost every situation. But, I feel Deuce n' Domino weren't given much steam, and weren't given much reasoning to work with their gimmicks. All the whys were answered in OVW, but they were just brought up as Greasers.
It's like with Boogeyman. Boogeyman became Boogeyman after slowly going crazy after being booted off of Tough Enough 4 for lying about his age. There was a whole background story developed for Boogeyman in OVW by Davis and Cornette, but he was just brought up, and no explanation was given for why he is the way he is.
I really do feel they are both talented. When Domino got released, he was recommended by different wrestlers in WWE to both TNA and ROH (ROH was the most surprising for me). Domino has a ton of charisma, and I feel wasn't given enough opportunities to speak and show his ability. Deuce is very talented I feel, very athletic, and is a veteran, as he's been around wrestling for awhile. But that's just me.
In OVW, they were over as heels. I know that's a small place, but it's still a group of people who they had heat with. But they also had steam behind them with Heyman, Cornette and Davis. When they were brought up, they were just Greasers. That's not with the times at all, not many people will get the gimmick.
