Before Jim Ross and Johnny Ace, what other folks headed up the talent relations department?
I wanna saw JJ Dillon was one - his departure to WCW was a really big deal, I figured this was why - but I don't recall for sure.

I don't know if J.J. Dillon had this position, but he certainly was instrumental in bringing in talent to WWE in the 1990s. Before WWE became a public company, it was harder to track down exactly who held what positions within the company. I always assumed Dillon was the head of talent relations.

I'd always assumed the actual job/title was invented as a way to make use of J.R.'s knack for dealing with the wrestlers and free up time for Vince to do other things backstage. I'm thinking what Dillon did was probably related to that function, but without a specific name.
Nick Bockwinkel also had that kind of role in that late '80s, if I'm not mistaken, though Bockwinkel may have been more just a glorified road agent. (He's the guy who got Don Muraco fired after a tour of Europe.)

Dillon was responsible for bringing in Brian Pillman in 1996.
