Nick Cvjetkovich, better known as Kizarny in recent WWE Smackdown vignettes, says his entire carnival freak persona is based on his authentic background as a showman.
It impressed Vince McMahon enough to hire him to a developmental contract right away in July 2007 after McMahon had sit-down chats with several prospects during a try-out session.
"I guess my craziness amused him. Soon after that I was filming vignettes, getting ready to get up there and tear things up," Cvjetkovich told Jim Varsallone in the Miami Herald. "He just asked me about myself. He didn't really ask me a whole lot of wrestling stuff. He just wanted to know what I was like. He realized I was legitimately from the carnival and legitimately knows how to do all the weird sideshow feats."
Cvjetkovich says McMahon was probably chuckling to himself that he had an authentic carnival freak in front of him and he could probably do something with that. As a result, the Kizarny vignettes began airing on Smackdown in October while Kizarny is developing in Florida.
Cvjetkovich is from Canada and is friends with Christian and Edge, who kept pushing him to keep pursuing a WWE opportunity. He traveled on the independents for several years making very little money, but he picked up valuable road experience with Jake Roberts.
"We did a lot of (independent) shows together in Florida, and he taught me 90 percent of what I know - the character stuff, the in-ring psychology, how to really maximize the feelings you want to invoke on the people, good, bad or indifferent," Cvjetkovich said. "He's just a smart guy. He's got his demons. Everybody knows the story of Jake the Snake, but he's truly a sweet man
