I have a B.A. in English and I disliked the books (because I am a lit snob) but liked the film, because it made me remember the feeling of being a teenager and desperately in lust. Much like women who were the age I am now identified with Dirty Dancing in the 80s. Remember kids, sometimes just because a lot of people like something doesn't mean it sucks. See also: Shakespeare, Prince and S&M. Wait, do you mean the weird orchestra/Metallica thing or the stuff I do on off days? I agree that, for the audience, there's not a thing wrong with it. It's escapism for a younger reader than myself, and that's all well and good. My thing is, living with my now teenage niece, I see her using more than one phrase to describe things, which the main character in the book seemingly could not do. It was never just "I find him attractive", it was always the over the top line about how mesmerizing his eyes were, and worse still, it was always the SAME line. It just screamed "lazy" to me that there was only one way the author could describe a main character.

Twilight = Mary Sue fanfiction + sparkling vampires + a good healthy dose of Mormon values. And somehow it got published.
f*** Twilight. It is utter tripe.

You know, most authors have been guilty of throwing a little "Mary Sueism" into their main characters, but I find that lately it seems more common. It's not just one character, it's whole casts, all of whom are just so damn perfect, or have this one flaw that is so "tragic" but is really nothing major, just something to play up.

I liked the books just fine. Not my favorites, but I like vampires and different takes on them anyway, so whatever. Just as I know too many people are going out of their way to "love" the books, I think too many people...especially here on this board...are going out of their way to "hate" the books.

Went out with a girl who was really into them at the start of last summer and she kept biting me all the time in the bedroom. So no, not a fan.

Just curious to who actually likes this garbage. quite a few people actually, its good to see that youre understanding of differnt people having different opinions I saw a pirate copy of the movie at work last night, it wasnt great but it was far from the worst movie ive seen. One thing i didnt understand tho, was the vampires were bigged up as being superfast, yet when they tried to get away from the bad vampires, they got into a car, which was slower and less maneurvrable than themselves =/

I've always found it funny how people get all high and mighty about any form of entertainment that is obviously NOT marketed to them.
That's like me dissing my sons Goosebump books or my daughters love of any movie with an animal in it's lead role.
If if gets more kids reading then it's a good thing; period.

I have two mates who are obsessed with the books, so naturally they hated the film.
I personally haven't seen it but I am intrigued to see what all the fuss is about (it can't surely be worse than Harry Potter right?). Plus Paramore's song on the soundtrack kicks ass.

It reignited reading for my wife, since the books came out she has read the Vampire Dairies, Vampire Hunter, every Ann Rice book and more and more.
I'm acctuly reading the first book now, and it's okay.
it's a little two simple, I do like how the vampires are more another species then anything else.
Way to damn powerful, and not scary at all.
I think the movie did the book justice also but my wife HATED it.

I thought it was ok, not great or anything but not terrible either. Sure it's incredibly cheesy but I thought that was the funny part of it.
And yes every girl I've met likes this film, just like they liked Sex And The City and Mama Mia!, but hey they could be watching worse.

Alot of people who haven't been exposed to real literature and movies. Some freshman girl tried to explain to me why it's the best book/movie series ever. I throughly owned her by bringing up good movies and books. I will not name everything that's better I'm proving a point Books: Anything by George Orwell Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger Anything by John Steinbeck Timeline-191 Series by Harry Turtledove (My personal favorite.) Movies: Casablanca Citizen Kane Twelve Angry Men Gone With The Wind The Difference between Twilight and these works of art is that Twilight is about a girls teenage crush with a "vampire," while the stuff I just mentioned looks at the Characters much more deeply and you eventually learn more about the characters then the characters themselves.

What is it about anyway? I like Paramore's song, "Decode", from the Twilight soundtrack if that counts for anything. It's sort of like Buffy and Angel, except Buffy from Season 6, not season 2, or that episode when she didn't have a soul and you wish Spike and Dru would kill all of them. Especially Dru, she never really did anything, except kill Kendra, which was pretty neat. And then Jesus would appear, and Spike would go "Ah, wait, why are you here?" And Jesus would go "Technically, I'm the Ann Rice version of Jesus, you see Lestat wanted to rip their necks out, but Ann doesn't write about Vampires anymore, so I have to bless them." Which as we all know, if you bless an undead creature, well, they don't like Holy Water for a reason. Actually, it's Eragon with Vampires. If you liked Young Adult Fiction retellings of classic fantasy literature, you'll like this to.

I haven't seen the movie, but I'm not to bothered about it.
I've read the first three books, and they were alright. They're a floored series that cater to a certain demographic. But then what isn't?
No reason to hate it.
