Okay, so oddly enough today I remembered that neither myself or any of my house mates had toasters, despite my craving for buttered toast. So in, my agony for said toast, I picked up a pan, picked up some bread and butter and went to work. Unfortunately, it didn't touch the toasted stuff

You should have put cheese on it.
That would have been epic. I'm craving grilled cheese now. Thanks a lot. Heh.

Any cheese will do.
I love a killer grilled sharp cheddar sandwich. Yum.

Any cheese will do. I love a killer grilled sharp cheddar sandwich. Yum. Yeah, but you probably never had the only cheese I had left in the house. I mean it is processed crap that I only bought because of the price tag. I mean the packaged stuff is alright for the most part, but even I have my limits. Now swiss cheese from a deli on the other hand, them's good eating.

When I barely had any money, processed crap would do, especially if it were local processed crap.
It's cool.

Idk, maybe the local processed crap, is better in the People's Republic of VT than it is here. The processed cheese I bought it simply uneatable, yet I can't throw it out as I know at some point I'll be forced to eat it. Maybe I'll try to heat it up with bread at some point, but my expectations are low.

Sounds like your pan wasn't hot enough. Next time, try letting it warm up for a good 2 minutes on a gas range, and far longer on an electric. I also keep my heat up in the area of medium-high to high when I toast.
Pan should be heavy enough to distribute the heat evenly. Cast iron is what I use, but a good steel pan would be acceptable too. Non-stick is optional, because if your pan is hot enough, there shouldn't be sticking if you have enough fat applied. If you do use non-stick, be sure to do things quickly, as Teflon breaks down at heats above the 350-400 degree mark (which should be more than sufficient for any toast making and most general cooking stuff), and Teflon poisoning isn't something to goof about with.
Hope that helps out.

You silly americans and your "toasted" breads and procecced cheeses. When I want some fromagé I go to the nearest village, steal a goat and make the cheese with my own hands. And that's the way we like it. And if I ever want to spoil the aromas and wonderful tastes of the cheese with bread I would never eat "toast" Only the finest les baguettes des bouchers(that's european) will do.
Actually I wish I had a toaster. Warming the toast in the microwave isn't just that good
