I'd say Shawn, only because I've bought into his hype.'
Hogan DID make Wrestlemania what it is today, though.

HBK has been in 1 meaningful WM main event and that was vs Austin with Mike Tyson.
I also would disagree with the statement that Hogan MADE WM. Vince MADE WM Hogan just helped get the ball rolling.

The match with Diesel, The ironman match with Bret, triple threat with HHH and Benoit, and Cena match were meaningless? How bout the Flair match or McMahon match? The Ladder match with Razor? Next to Hogan I'd say Shawn has the most "meaningful" matches in the history of the event

Hogan, as far as a competitor goes the early years of this existed because of him. And what he brought to the table is the reason we have Wrestlemania today IMO
HBK for his matches
Taker in 100% kayfabe.

Out of all of the current WWE stars, I think Michaels deserves the most (more than Undertaker). However, would WrestleMania have been as successful without Hogan being so popular? Maybe. What about WrestleMania III with Andre? The truth is, Hogan helped make WrestleMania what it is today. The biggest wrestling event of the year.

HBK definetly put on the best matches, Taker has an undefeated streak, but Hogan MADE the event.

In the 80's and early 90's, I'd say Savage was Mr. WrestleMania. look at his matches. Savage-Steamboat, World Title Tournament, Savage-Hogan. Savage-Warrior, Savage-Flair, Savage-Crush.
Everyone of those matches was a winner, and everyone had a strong storyline leading up to it. Savage was Mr. Emotion, Mr. Energy, Mr. Passion, and Mr. WrestleMania.
After Savage, I'd say Michaels picked up the reigns nicely, starting at Savage's final WrestleMania appearance.
Michaels-Ramon, Michaels-Diesel, Michaels-Hart,(I hate that match, but I can't deny it's importance) Michaels-Austin.
During Michaels' 4 years off, I think The Rock stepped up nicely. Rock-Austin twice, and Rock-Hogan.
Then Michaels returned and continued doing what he did best, stealing the show. Michaels-Jericho, Michaels-Benoit-Triple H, Michaels-Angle, Michaels-McMahon, Michaels-Flair.
As far as ranking them, I'd say Michaels takes first, then Savage, then The Rock.

And it was a rarity to see hardcore matches in the WWF at the time, so that scored it more points. And the build to it was pretty good as well. Agree to disagree, I guess.

Cena is on his way there, but Hogan currently holds that title.

HBK has been in 1 meaningful WM main event and that was vs Austin with Mike Tyson. I also would disagree with the statement that Hogan MADE WM. Vince MADE WM Hogan just helped get the ball rolling. I seriously doubt anyone would have cared about the first WM without Hogan, who was the most popular wrestler before joining the WWF(he became that from 82-83 in the AWA, the fans went just as crazy in his matches there as in the WWF). I will agree Vince had an ingenious creation with Wrestlemania, but without Hogan it wouldn't have taken off like it did, infact I would almost say that Starrcade would have ended up being a bigger event (I think Flair vs Dusty would have been a bigger draw than Bob Backlund vs King Kong Bundy). So obviously my vote goes to Hogan, him as the wrestler and Vince as the promoter made Wresltemania. Then second is Randy with his amazing matches and being a big draw himself.

I think the Wrestlemania "Big 4" is Hogan, Savage, Undertaker and HBK.
Hogan - Like people have said, made Wrestlemania what it is today and headlined some huge matches.
Savage and HBK - Headlined some big matches that many fans remember just from the sheer awesomeness of them. These 2 were showstealers.
Taker - The streak.

Hmmmm i could basically make a few cases for anyone but i would have to say these are the standouts for me.
Hogan - bottome line he made WM what it was today, he is as important as it comes. His matches may not have always been the best but don't forget he had great matches with Savage, Warrior, Rock, Vince, Andre.
Bret Hart - You can't count out Bret cause he has had some AMAZING matches. Matches that are important to. vs Owen, HBK, and Austin are all 10 out 10 matches in my books.
The Undertaker - Since WM 19 onward there have been 2 things that i wait for at WM, one of them is the Streak. He may not have had the best matches but he Streak is what WM is all about. Matches with Triple H, Batista, Edge, Orton were all solid .
Savage - Basically did all the great wrestling why Hogan carried the crowd. He has had soo many great WM matches that he simply can't be counted out. Flair, Steamboat, Hogan, Warrior and the underrated Crush match are all examples
HBK - The second thing i look forward to at WM is HBK stealing the show. If this was based simply on match qauilty HBK would be the clear winner no question. Almost everyone of his WM matches were memorable. 3 great tag matches early on, then two very solid single matches against at 8 and 9. Then it starts. PWI match of the year in 94 against Razor, 95 against Diesel, 96 aginst Bret. Helped make Austin's career at 14. Comes back at 19 steals the show again with Jericho. PWI Match of the Year in 04 against Beniot /Triple H, 05 against Angle, 06 against Vince ( though i would disagree there even though i love the match, Taker vs Angle come on!). WM 23 has an outstanding match against Cena and will likely get another match of the Year award this year Against Flair. NOBODY has had better matches at WM then HBK
Edge- When HBK didn't have the match of the card or was out, it was Edge who was stealing the show. Triagngle Ladder Match, and TLC at 16 and 17, and Hardcore with Foley at 22 are many peopls picks as match of the card. Toss in runner up's like Money in the Bank at 21 &23, and Taker at 24, and Edge looks like he could be the next HBK.
The Rock and Austin could be picks to for they had great matches with each other and other wrestlers as mentioned above
