According to Bad News, Stu wasn't ever that close with Bret or his brother Bruce. According to Bret's book he was the one who was closest with his dad. Not like I'm calling Bad News a liar but I'd have to go with one of the people who were actually in the relationship.

You know, this is a random thought and completely off subject, but I think this helps lend credence to the belief that the "Screwjob" was a work. If Bret had really been screwed so bad, do you think Stu would allow the WWF to tape in his home only a short time later? It wasn't in Owen's contract, Vince couldn't force him to do it. I just feel like if someone legit treated my brother like Bret was supposedly done, I would not be willing to give them an inch on stuff like this. In Bret's autobiography, he stresses how Stu always tried to retain a good relationship with McMahon for the sake of the other Harts wresting - or wanting to wrestle - for the WWF. Although I think it happened awhile after Montreal, Stu showed up in the front row of a WWF show and held up a sign saying "Ha Ha Bret." Needless to say, that caused tremendous tension between The Hitman & his father. Correct scenario, wrong person. It was disgruntled brother Bruce holding that sign up. Stu was too old and frail at the time to do anything against the wishes of the Hart kids, whether he liked it or not.
