This was one of the matches which made me wish I had started watching WWF earlier than I did. Owen is comedy gold and an awesome wrestler. May he RIP.

I didn't get to see this when it was new. What was the reasoning behind it?

I always wondered - does anyone know if this was really done at Stu's house?

so how come this match happened? Well, as you may know, Rock and Shamrock were feuding over the IC title, and Owen was the Lone Blackhart. Well, The Nation had a match with Owen and Shamrock, during the course of which Owen turned on Shamrock and joined the Nation, which proceded to go to war against D-X for some reason. After that was complete, Shamrock and Owen feuded, once in the Hart Dungeon of Doom, and the other in the Lion's Den, a cage that looked like an Octogon. At the time, I think we all expected either Helen to come down with the laundry or Stu to try to put a hold on someone.

Or Bret coming down not knowing that the WWE was there tapping a match, As he was over visiting family. Appearing on WWE PPV while in WCW. Being like the hell are they doing here ( The WWE). Oh crap when he sees the camera.

You know, this is a random thought and completely off subject, but I think this helps lend credence to the belief that the "Screwjob" was a work. If Bret had really been screwed so bad, do you think Stu would allow the WWF to tape in his home only a short time later? It wasn't in Owen's contract, Vince couldn't force him to do it. I just feel like if someone legit treated my brother like Bret was supposedly done, I would not be willing to give them an inch on stuff like this.

Someone on this board once noted it would have been funny if Bret had accidentally walked into the dungeon during this match with a cup of coffee.

In Bret's autobiography, he stresses how Stu always tried to retain a good relationship with McMahon for the sake of the other Harts wresting - or wanting to wrestle - for the WWF. Although I think it happened awhile after Montreal, Stu showed up in the front row of a WWF show and held up a sign saying "Ha Ha Bret." Needless to say, that caused tremendous tension between The Hitman & his father.

According to Bad News, Stu wasn't ever that close with Bret or his brother Bruce.
