I didn't consider DOOMSDAY to be horror. I found it an homage to ESCAPE FROM NY.
First SAW.
While not a movie, SUPERNATURAL does a good job most of the time.

Try Eden Lake. It was really good, I thought. Its been a while since a movie sort of made me feel sick and check the cover to see if it was based on a true story.

Give "Rogue" a shot. It is MUCH better than your typical giant animal movie.

I loved "The Hills Have Eyes" remake. But the sequel sucked hard.

[.REC], seriously, that movie is all kind of awesome and shows that the Spanish rule at horror movies. If you can't find it, you can still get the American remake called Quarantine (made less than a year after the original movie was released, so both have been released less than 3 years ago...).
To be honest, I haven't seen the remake, but I doubt it can be as great as the original movie.

To be honest, I haven't seen the remake, but I doubt it can be as great as the original movie. The Spanish are second best at horror. The Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese collectively are the best at horror. But both are awesome. Especially because many of their horror films are influenced by their folklore. Like East Asian countries(Japan, China, Korea) have a lot of movies with ghosts in them because a good chunk of their folklore features ghosts or ghost-like demons. Spain's folklore has a lot of demons thanks to its large and vast history of Abrahamic religions(Catholicism and the period of time that Islam had an influence around the area). See, [.REC] makes more sense to be a movie set in Spain. Then again the set Quarantine in Los Angeles, which if it was to be set in a city in America, I guess that is the one that makes the most sense.
