MINOR SPOILERS.
I'm watching Rocky II on AMC right now and something just dawned on me.
In the first Rocky, Mr. Gazzo's driver tells Rocky to take Adrian to the zoo because, as he puts it, "Retards like the Zoo." Now, Rocky is understandably quite upset by this and wants to beat up the driver.
Then in Rocky II, he proposes to Adrian................AT THE ZOO!

Perhaps Adrian actually enjoyed the zoo even if she's not mentally handicapped?
I'm guessing that a fair amount of zoo patrons aren't actually mentally handicapped, "tards," or other less-than-appealing descriptions.

After talking to Adrian a little more Rocky found out that Mr. Gazzo's driver driver was right.

Also, Rocky might not have remembered that conversation. He wasn't terribly bright to start, and he's been hit in the head a few times.

I like to think that Rocky was more pissed that the driver was insulting the fine Philadelphia Zoo than Adrian. Who is this bum to dare insult America's First Zoo?
PS-They actually have a sign at the Zoo by the tigers commemorating Rocky's proposal.

My guess is that Apollo beat Rocky so bad in part one that Rocky became a zoo going type.
