So I am WAY too excited about seeing this footage. It is AWESOME.
I'm still not sure what to make of the battle system. Even seeing it in action, I'm not entirely sure how it plays. It DOES look pretty f***ing amazing though.
This year needs to go by very, very fast.

Looks pretty good. That said, I wouldn't mind if things returned to a midevil-themed world. You don't find too many RPGs these days involving knights, dragons, etc.

I wouldn't complain too much, myself. But really I have yet to be dissatisfied.

Interesting. Gameplay looks a little confusing but I'm sure that'll be cleared up.

Cause we have the Monster Hunter series, and then pretty much every Western made RPG. I mean we have the Fable games, the Elder Scrolls games, and several others.

Also, too bad we have to wait till Spring 2010 to get it....
Japan gets it this year.
Oh well, if there ever an advantage to having a PS3, THIS would be it, since Japan & North America have the same region in Blu-Ray terms. Thus North American PS3s can play the Japanese version.

That's true, but I have no real interest in playing the Japanese version. I'll just be as patient as I can be.

I saw on X-Play today that the creators have put a strict limit on who can and can not show the trailer, including prohibiting X Play from showing it. If they did show they would not recieve any other footage or information about the game, including advanced copies to review. This is the first time ive heard of a company doing anything like this.

Judging from that bit of footage, plus what they have done with the past few games, it seems like there trying to take the basic MMO battle system and trying to re-invent it.
FFXI was auto attack, with Macros which were kinda like hotkeys that you could put on timers, and the menu to still maintain control over your characters. They also later brought in NPC's you could use that you had basic control over there job type, and how they played. ie. Defensive, Healing, Attacking.
FFXII was a pretty much the same idea, just tweaked for the offline experience. Auto attack, the Gambits were an offline version of macros, and the menu to maintain some form of control. The rest of the party were kind of like the NPC's of FFXI
I think it will be the same thing just improved/tweaked. Auto attacking + various methods of retaining control of your character.

Jokes aside... FFXIII, with more androgynous male characters, the usual/same pretty girl, now with a cyberpunk/sci-fi vibe, and an even more messy visual. And probably the same old same old in the gameplay/combat department. But, hey, as long as it still sells and fan(boy)s are drooling at the mere sight of it, more power to Square-Enix, and to those who will play and love it... Me, I've had enough of it with playing halfway through FFXII Sorry for interrupting, and enjoy the love-fest

So far only two male playable characters were revealed, and both look like guys. One is the blonde guy, who looks very manly, and then there is the black guy who is more lover than fighter(he takes care of a baby Chocobo for crying out loud!).

Huh, a little art direction from the Matrix series. A Female lead (which hasn't happened since 6, but then who was the lead kinda faded in the end). A combat system that LOOKS like a cross between XII and maybe Grandia. Hmmm.
If I get a PS3 I'll get it, but I am not salivating over it, yet.

*Likes his androgynous characters more than tough guys. Except for Vaan, he was just bleh.*
People are thinking from the gameplay video's that the combat is some mix of ATB and Real time, you still have the ATB gauge but your free to mix up the actions you take and having different actions take up more time.

Agreed, except I liked Vaan. I love androgynous male characters. Maybe it's because I connect with them easily, or just appreciate the design, I dunno. Either way, I'm totally fond of them. But I wouldn't care if it was some gruff masculine dude like everyone apparently seems to want. As long as it's a good character, that's all I care about. And yeah, it seems like the battle system is somewhere along the lines of an evolved ATB.

I love androgynous male characters. I do too. They're usual balanced with a macho stereotype anyway (Cloud and Barrett for example.)

And yeah, it seems like the battle system is somewhere along the lines of an evolved ATB. I liked Vaan too, he wasn't so bad once you took into account that him and Panelo weren't the main characters (everyone else pretty much was) and the scenes with Fran were vulking hilarious (anyone who gets the reference gets cake*). They were Macguffins who helped set the whole story into motion. I do however, like some grittier elements to my RPGs, but I accept that most JRPGs steer clear from that, and I don't mind, because I take them all for what their worth. In fact Lunar 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. But then it has better characterizations then most of it's contemporaries, and later games as well. That's the issue I have with the JRPGs is that they really rely on cookie cutter characters, and barring the exceptions they don't flesh them out too much beyond the requisites for their "role." I wouldn't mind the exception of a main character being somewhat older, or looking half as capable as they are. Still this happens on this side of the ocean with American and European made RPGs too, I suppose it becomes more evident with the "franchises" that get produced in Japan, because if you're got a best selling formula, don't screw with it. *The cake is a lie.

Asia only gets a PS3 version. But Oceania, Europe, and the Americas get it on PS3 & 360.

I love androgynous male characters. I do too. They're usual balanced with a macho stereotype anyway (Cloud and Barrett for example.) Or in FFVIII, Zell and Irvine for another example. I'm not one for Final Fantasy Games after 6. 7 I played a bit of, hated 8, never played 9, 10 was alright, X-2 was dreary, and I hate MMORPGS, so I skipped 11. I saw 12 in action and thought I'd play it once I had a job so I can buy it. That said, the footage looks great, and I hope this does well. Although I wouldn't mind going back in time to playing something in the realm of the first 3 games in terms of that's where it's set. You have to admit sometimes; taking on a 40ft mechanical spider with just Gauntlets, a flail and a gunblade sounds kinda stupid, even if they are enchanted.

Yes, well... considering they can use spells... it's not out of the realm of possibility. And no less silly than Force powers and Light Sabers, or Kratos' weapons (physics don't work like that).
