This is what happens in the divas division. There is only one title to contest so you only really get two or three featured divas at one time.
Candice came back from her injury and everyone was disgusted that she dared to have a bit of ring rust. So I guess WWE just thought, 'lets try something else'.
Also I would contest the fact that she never connected with the fans. In 2007 she was genuinley one of my favourite aspects of WWE. She seemed to get decent crowd reactions in that period as well as some very good matches with Beth. Better than Mickie's matches with Beth in my opinion.
And before people say "she neva gotz da biggah pop dan Mickie lolz!1". That is because Mickie is constantly over. But you can't just have one main face diva. You have to let others have some spotlight as well.
I agree with everything here. Not just because I'm a Candice fan, but because I believe it to be true.
When she got injured in 2007 she had become a decent wrestler. She was not amazing by any means, but she was decent. She was also over. People often say "she's never connected with the crowd", well to those people I say, I'm sorry, but in my opinion you're wrong. I once got together a collection of videos proving that the crowd do in fact care about her (despite what people say) but I really can't be bothered doing that at the moment. Her reactions at that time were on par with Mickie James, with the one exception when they were in Virginia. I know it to be true because I've seen every one of Candice's matches from the period when she was champion.
When she came back last year she was noticebaly rusty. I personally thought it was understandable and I think she should have been given more time off. However the reactions from people here and on some other websites to her matches were just ridiculous. Except for the intial Six-Woman-Tag match in which she returned, her matches weren't awful. Bland? Maybe, but not awful. By the time No Mercy came around people had already (unfairly) written her off. The match was fine. Not great, not amazing, not terrible. It was fine. It had the potential to be better if it had been given a few more minutes. Also, the crowd was into it, and more importantly Candice.
The reactions she gets are not amazing, but they are not terrible despite people always try to say so. At Survivor Series the crowd reaction to her was good, on par with the other face divas.
Is she currently the least over diva on RAW? Possibly, possibly not, but I think if she is that's fair enough at the moment when she's not in a storyline and not featured as much as the other divas. Does that mean that the backstage WWE people hate her? No. Divas especially go through times when they are featured for weeks. It doesn't mean the backstage people have "lost faith" or dislike her, it just means they want something different.
Personally, from what I've seen on here and in other forums, when people get something into their mind it is hard to change it. Alot of people here dislike Candice. That's fair enough, people are entitled to their own opinions. That doesn't annoy me at all. But wheb people go on to claim things as fact when, often, they are not that annoys me, and people who dislike Candice often say stuff like that. Stuff like "she's not and has never been over with fans". Everyone is entitled to their opinions but when when people claim stuff like that as fact it's just wrong.
Also my biggest pet peeve about criticisms of Candice is when people call her "melty-face" or the like. I'm sorry but people throw up arms when anything arby or horse related is mentioned about Mickie. And fair enough, if you are a fan of someone you don't want to see something disrespectful written about their appearence. But this level of respect should be applied to everyone.
It's a matter of respect. If you're not willing to respect someone then you deserve no respect at all. "I don't find her attractive". Fair enough. I've said that about the divas before. Insults and nicknames? What are you, five? Grow up.
In regards to that last bit...agreed 100%. I realized my hypocrisy in this area, and it's why I have since ceased using "McRibs" in regards to McCool, or snarky comments about Candice. It just wasn't right.
I will, however, attest to the fact that having an injury the extent of what Candice suffered CAN and DOES hamper you mentally. I broke my left arm slamming into a wall in the seventh grade, and to this date, decades later, I have a phobia of being pushed against walls, even gently. I just have visions of my arm snapping like it did before, and....well, it's not a good scene.
So yeah, I can imagine Candice mentally replays the injury every time she steps in the ring. I actually was singing her praises for a while, back when she was doing that cool Capoeira offense, and working with Finlay to improve her ring skills. I actually pointed her out as one of the DIVAs with the drive and desire to better herself. Post-injury, she looks to have lost a little of that drive.
