I got offered a position in management at Big Lots today. I am currently working at Aaron's Sales and Lease and have been there for the past three and a half years, and haven't been promoted yet. I do have a associates degree in General Business and they know this and have done nothing for me. I am currently making $10.25/hr plus $2.00 per delivery. (we average around 20 deliveries a week) Big Lots is starting me off at $11.50/hr and it is a position in management which is a step in the right direction for me. I am going to Big Lots on my day off tomorrow to see what the job entails and I am seriously leaning towards taking it and putting in my two weeks notice at Aarons. What do my fellow crappers think I should do?
Well I took the job today, and start on March 9. I put in my two weeks notice today, and I am honestly expecting to be fired on tomorrow. It seems like the company doesn't really care for people to seek other employment opportunities, either that or they will just make work/life there for me a living hell. So, I maybe starting sooner rather than later.

You got the right idea in mind. A concrete increase in wage plus a step up in the workplace is always a good thing.

I'll tell you what you shouldnt do. Don't set fire to both places and scribble your name and address on the sidewalk daring the cops to come get you

I think the only thing that is maybe, kinda, slightly putting me off from it is the fact that they just last week laid everyone in the store off and replaced EVERYONE. But, at my age (26) being a "furniture delivery guy" doesn't exactly look good on a resume.

I mean I can look out the window at Aarons and see inside of Big Lots.

You got the right idea. Check out Big Lots and see if it's a decent job/you like it, and go from there. If you do like it, and it's a decent job...there's your answer.

I'm pretty sure if you put in your notice they cannot fire you. Hopefully you sent a notice letter to them AND to their corporate offices and made a copy for yourself.
I'm not sure who you would go to about it but I'm thinking the department of labor.
also if you decide that you don't like it at Big Lots you should check out CostCo. CostCo has the highest pay in retail and great benefits.(I believe right now they offer full benefits to full time employees.) As soon as they are hiring again I'm gonna try like hell to get hired there. After about five years you can be making up to 18 dollars an hour.
Oh BTW about your associates degree being ignored yeah that should be expected. In this day and age associates degrees mean absolutely nothing unless it is like a demanding trade that has to do with labor.

I hope you are right, I know that I am currently working for an at will employer which means they can fire you for any reason at all, just like I can walk in tomorrow and quit.
