We did a similar thread for the comics a while back, why not do one for anime / manga, since that happens as often as in the american comics.
What are the all time best or favorite turns in anime?
Susake's heel turn in Naruto, is one of the most dramatic turns in history.
Lelouch's apperant heel turn in Code Geass was awsome, even though it was a swerve. I don't know if it counts, but it was awsome when he used his Geass on all of the royals in the palice.
Though it originated from a video game, Zola's heel turn in Blue Dragon, I loved that.
Most face turns, the characters are too emo for my liking when they turn good, they were always cry "What have I done?", and bad mouth selfs in self pitty. They turn into cry babies.
Some exceptions would also be in Blue Dragon, particularly Deathroy and Delphinium's face turn. They still retained that bad attitude, of "Yeah we will help save the world, but we won't appologies for we have done in the past." Rogi was also the same way, though not as cool as Deathroy and Delphinium.

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Kaworu Nagisa. The heel turn wasn't hard to see coming, but it was still pretty powerful.

Nephrite's face turn in Sailor Moon was done very well in the cartoon, I thought.

I am a softy for love. I liked it when the love of someone's life is able to turn that person good.
Anemone (Eureka 7), Masaya (Tokyo Mew Mew), and Soma / Marie (Mobile Suit Gundam 00), were excellent face turn.
Though I was always a fan of Anemone to begin with, so that only helps.

Walter in Hellsing. Although I like to think of it less like a Heel turn and more like switching over to the better team.

Aizen Sousuke in Bleach. Though it really isn't a turn per se, because he really was evil from the beginning. We as the viewers just didn't know this at first.

I thought Guld's face turn in Macross Plus (the movie version anyway, far more poignant in it) was pretty good.
And I definitely agree with Nephrite.

Piccolo's face turn in DBZ. BTW How did Vegeta turn Face? Was it ever explained? Something along the lines of a combo of Vegeta wanting Goku to prevent Frieza from wiping out the last remnants of the Saiyan race, and Vegeta wanting to be the person to kill Goku. No one else could kill Goku. So while Vegeta didn't FULLY turn face, he was more of a tweener fighting on the side of good. Bascially, like Punisher, Ghost Rider, Deadpool, or any other anti-hero comic book hero.

this will be above people's heads, but why not, it was awesome: This is Seahorse Kanon. Twin brother to Gemini Saga: Kanon was the sole reason why Saga became the bad guy in the first arc by forcing him to embrace the evil in him. He was also the sole reason why the 2nd (or 3rd anime arc) happen: he opened the container witch had the soul of Poseidon in it that Athena sealed away a long time ago. For that, he was awarded his Aquatic Shogunhood. Truely an evil man, but as the Poseidon arc nears the end, he redeems himself by viewing the errors of his ways and would be presumed dead after saving the rest of the saints from a fully powered Poseidon. It would be found out later that he did survive and would go on to request sainthood to become the next Gemini saint. Unfortunally, even he met his demise in hell in a suicide attack on Hades' Specter Rhadamanthys. the most awesome faceturn i've ever seen in an anime T_T
