If you first got the internet around 10 years ago, one of the first things you did was go into chatrooms. Now years later you go into an aol chatroom or one on yahoo and they're loaded with bots/spam and there's not much lively activity going on. Do you still go in chatrooms or do you not bother due to their suckiness ?

I remember just 4 years ago it was still pretty active on aol or Yahoo, but you go on now and it's nothing but spam-bots.
So yeah, I think pretty much they're dead

I avoid chatrooms like the plague now. I have no need to be invited to a bash mod party (even though the invitee isn't doing the bashing).

Well, msn closed all their old chat rooms awhile ago. Which makes me sad because now I can't hit on those 14-year-old vampire chicks anymore.

I still go into chatrooms on AOL, they are usually private rooms on most days, but on Monday nights, and PPV nights the sports wrestling room is pretty hoppin. I'll admit though, the only reason I still have AOL is for those chats because I've known so many of those people for years.

The real sad part is when AOL Live stopped having those celebrity chats where you could submit questions in real time or go back later and get the transcripts. Those were super fun.

I wish I could do that; sometimes, I just get tired of bashing these mods.

I don't know about Yahoo, MSN, or AOL, but I'm a pretty active IRC user. Those are going as strong as ever.

The real sad part is when AOL Live stopped having those celebrity chats where you could submit questions in real time or go back later and get the transcripts. Those were super fun. It obviously wasn't an official celebrity chat, but I went into one of those once and asked Midnight from WCW a question or two. It was after WCW released her/shut down and she was doing some indy shows. I still chat on Palace aka Chat Palace ak Communities Chat Palace aka "Phalanx" aka... probably tons of other stuff. It's been abandoned since like 1999-2000, although a little while later some people started made a homebrewed client to handle better graphics. It's a shame there were idiots and did nothing with it... I could easily see the thing being as big of a network as gaia or possibly myspace if re-tooled to a degree and marketed correctly.

I can't be the only one to remember good 'ol Microsoft Chat (complete with optional comic theme). God I miss those things. Observe:

I used to go on teen chat a few years back. I was bored at checked it out the other day actually and its still going strong surprisingly. But yeah chat rooms seem to be a dieing trend, foums and myspace style sites are whats in now.
