I saw some terrible film about UFC, or something to that ilk, and I swear he was in it. Apparently it wasn't him, just someone who looked like him.

Here's Puder's side of the story If you ask me, Puder is full of excretory matter. If you ask me Puder is getting buried by Bubba the Love Sponge, because he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to talking. Just by listening to this you can tell Bubba has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to legit fighting. Honestly I see nothing wrong with what Puder did. The Fight was supposed to be a shoot and he was told before hand that a contestant could win by submission, or pin. Fact is Puder came in there, and would have beat Kurt had the refs not made the count for a pin that wasn't there. Kurt can tell sob stories about his arms being numb all night, but at the end of the day he is the one who decided that he was going to do a legit shoot with some of the contestants, and he got owned. Most folks don't realize it but Puder was seconds away from breaking Kurt's arm. I also think what happened at the Rumble was a chicken crap move by the WWF. Eddy, Chris, and Holly all seem real tough smacking around a guy who can't fight back. I would have loved to see them really fight Puder in a shoot. WWF missed out big time on Puder, and the appeal he would have had to MMA fans.

WWF missed out big time on Puder, and the appeal he would have had to MMA fans.[/quote] This is exactly my thoughts.Kurt has no reason to be whining or upset. If it was a legit shoot which It more than likely was. Kurt said he could take them all on one after another and make them tap. It was Kurt who issued the challenge and was to big headed for his own grounds. Puder owned him. He made Kurt tap (he was going to) and Kurt decides to whine about it. Then on his way out because he made one of the biggest superstars in WWF history look like an ass the WWE decide to get him into a 3 on 1 situation in the Rumble to make Puder look bad and to save anymore embarrassments (In WWE eyes) happing at the Rumble. Kurt should not have issued the challenge there are tougher guys out there in pro wrestlers and Puder is one of them. What they should have done was set up a big match between Puder and Kurt an I Quit match or I Quit Iron man match. Kurt could have then shown how much tougher he was than Puder and how Puder was so wrong for shooting on him ( ) even although it was Kurt who started the shoot fight. He knew (Kurt) had no chance so decided to instead whine and try to make Puder look bad. I'am also in the minority who thinks that Vince McMahon was 100 per cent right regarding Montreal also and Bret Hart is also a wrestler whining about a satiation he has/had no right to be but that's a different story for a different day. I have no idea what Bret Harts legitimate point is (only those in a working environment would get what I mean though)

I tend to side with Puder on the situation, but also believe that all people involved (puder, Kurt, and the WWE) acted like complete asses about it.
The fact remains that Puder pretty much owned Kurt. Yes, Kurt would have been thoroughly embarrassed, but it would have been his own fault (or the WWE's if they told him to do it). Had Kurt tapped, they would have had a moneymaking angle writing itself right in front of them. There are so many directions they could have taken that angle. But instead, the ref performed a non-existent 3 count and he got ganged up on in the Rumble as an act of petty revenge. Kurt needs to let it go. You lost. Quit trying to make excuses and accept it.
That being said, Puder needs to handle the situation more maturely as well. Saying things like "I think he would've tapped had the ref not performed a fast count" is one thing. Wearing "I Hurt Kurt" shirts is another. There's one thing about getting the better of someone the caliber of Kurt Angle. But there's no need to act like a five year old about it.

I don't side with either guy on the Puder/Angle situation, because it sounds to me that if you look past the posturing of both men, it seems that neither was entirely clear on what they were supposed to be doing. I will say only one thing in defense of either man, which is that to me, it did look like Kurt had Puder pinned at the end with both shoulders on the mat.
I think the problem is that no one in WWE thought the situation through enough. They probably figured they didn't have to be too clear about it, because no matter what Kurt would just pin or submit any of the guys easily. It seems like neither Kurt nor anyone in the company took into account that one of the contestants might actually be a good fighter, and I think Angle probably took Puder lightly and didn't realize his mistake until Puder had his arm locked. That said, it was some quick thinking on Kurt's part to roll Puder over for the pin.
I agree that there's a possibility this could've been turned into a good angle, but the problem being that Kurt was a heel at the time and Puder with his attitude and demeanor could only have been a heel also. Though there's little doubt that most of the crowd would've cheered Angle and essentially turned him face.

To me, it looked like Puder's right shoulder was up, though I will admit that it's not 100% clear one way or the other. This I will agree with. The crowds were chanting "UFC UFC UFC" during the bout. Based solely on crowd reactions, Puder could have easily been the face in any resulting feud. Granted, he didn't see to have an attitude that would have fit with a face type of character, and I'm not sure the WWE would have allowed him to be a face, but based solely on crowd reactions, he'd have been the face of the feud.

You would think that WWE would've learned from The Brawl for it All. It's worked entertainment; yes the lines between work and shoot blur, and things don't go as planned but this should not be a shoot. Either tell everyone up front that it's a work and this is how it'll go or have them do a shoot. Just pick one.
I don't like having a nice chunk of shoot in my work soup (or fill in whatever food/drink metaphor you want) or vice versa and, it seems, it only works in WWE when its a personal issue like Hart/HBK or Matt/Edge and not "who can really take out who".

I've only ever seen the clip on YouTube and wasn't aware that whole segment was meant to be a shoot. I figured it was all meant to be a work and Puder took advantage of the situation to get himself over. If the whole thing was a shoot that was pretty stupid of Angle and WWE to do that in first place as it always goes wrong for WWE (see Brawl For All). That said, it did seem like there was confusion over what kind of shoot it was meant to be (amateur wrestling or MMA), since Kurt is right that under amateur rules you only need to be pinned for a 1 count. It's just that the referees didn't seem entirely sure either and just went for a normal pro wrestling 3 count to stop the match. But that was probably WWE's fault for muddying the waters by saying that there could be a submission as well as a pin. If it was meant to be an MMA-style shoot you wouldn't have seen Kurt locking up amateur style with Puder like that as it would be pretty easy for a trained fighter to switch into an armbar.
In any case, even if it would have been a money-making angle if done right, we don't know what the full details behind the scenes were with regard to Puder's abilities as a pro wrestler as well as his attitude to the business and others in the locker room. Also, I'm not aware of Angle constantly whining about it. The only time I've seen him talk about it is in the RF interview where he was asked about it. It seems like Puder is the only one who has been constantly bragging about it (rightfully or not).

"I was in OVW. And we had this one town in Kentucky we went to every week, it was basically an old barn. There were the same 20 people there every time, they all looked the same, they all had maybe three teeth each and they all had the same name. Finally, one night I walked in and saw all the inbreds and thought to myself, "What am I doing with my life?" - Daniel Puder

He was not too smart to the wrestling business but what young talent is these days? My memories of Daniel Puder in OVW are quite different that what is stated here in your article. (I am assuming Daniel really said this) he was always giving away free pics, trading cards and T-shirts of him self to all the fans. He spent a fortune on this stuff and gave it to the fans, not to mention the 20 in a barn he claims to have seen every week. (I have no idea what town he is talking about) if he had not dozed off in training class and stayed off his lap top and cell phone 24/7 he may have drew more than 20 fans in what ever town he thinks he was in. We sure draw more than that now. We have capacity crowds (500 or so) turning away up to 50 to 200 fans every week at OVW TV tapings. We perform over 170 shows a year in the Louisville Metro area not to mention better than 100 additional shows around the tri state area. 12 shows a year at Six Flags Ky. Kingdom, 2 state fair shows and countless fund raisers. I also remember Daniel cried like a baby the day he was released from WWE. Daniel may want to reflect back on his OVW days more accurately and appreciate any fans who took the time to come and see him in the future. Thanks, Kenny Bolin OVW" community.livejournal.com/ovw_wrestling/tag/kenny+bolin

Why? because he didn't want to spend three years of his life bouncing around WWE's development program knowing good, and well that he would never be called up because of backstage politics? The guy decided that he didn't want to waste his life wrestling in the indies, when he could be working on his MMA career. How does that make him a bitch?

Not until I saw this thread.
I side with Angle. Trying to legit hurt someone in pro-wrestling is a dick move.

Puder was pretty smart. He was able to use the exposure he got to do other things. Not to mention, he pocketed all of the money from Tough Enough, which he couldn't have done had he stayed.
