I attended the WWE house show in Victoria, British Columbia this afternoon with my girlfriend. It was the worst live event I have been to of all time. I paid $120 Canadian for two tickets in the lower bowl, and the show was not even 2 hours long, with no intermission and 10 minutes of kids dancing in the ring with Finlay and Hornswoggle. I seriously feel ripped off by this event and will never go to another WWE house show again; and I will advise my friends the same thing as well. Here are the results of the show, even though what happened after the show is much more important and I will get to that in a separate e-mail:
1. Intercontinental Title Match: CM Punk (c) defeated William Regal. This match literally consisted of stalling, a few armbars, restholds, and the GTS by Punk for the win. I was disappointed considering how I know how good of wrestlers these two are. This really bugged me because this match represented a running theme throughout the afternoon, where it appeared that a lot of the wrestlers weren't really giving it their all in their matches because it's a matinee show. I think that is unfortunate, because ticket prices are no cheaper on matinees than they are on normal live events, and yes they have the cheap $20 seats, but any of the good seats are costing you $40-$50 per seat, so that's still a hefty chunk of change. I wish CM Punk and William Regal (among others) had of kept that in mind during their half-assed matches, and I'm sorry to pick on Punk and Regal but their match had to be disappointment of the night.
2. World Tag Team Titles Match: John Morisson and The Miz (c) defeated Goldust and Haas Hogan. This match was good for some laughs. The crowd was really dead for most of the night, but this match got some laughs out of the Hogan spots. Some good heat for Morisson and The Miz at some times though.
3. Mark Henry defeated Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer actually got a pop out of the crowd, but not a very memorable match.
4. Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston defeated Kane and Mike Knox. Best match of the night, all four of them are pros and looked like they were trying to give the crowd a good show, as opposed to other wrestlers who appeared to just want to make their matinee appearances and get the hell out of the town (see CM Punk and William Regal).
At this point, I assumed there would be an intermission, and headed to the concession stand. I was wrong, as Finlay with Hornswoggle came to the ring for the ECW Title Match with Jack Swagger. Well I never saw it myself because I wanted French fries (shows how much I care about ECW these days); but I don't think there was even a match...Finlay's music played again and they started dancing with kids. This literally went on for 10 minutes.
5. Beth Phoenix (w/Santino Marella) defeated Kelly Kelly. My girlfriend and I are Glamorella fans, so this was one we were looking forward to. Santino cut a promo before the match talking about how he loves Tim Hortons, and that he loves the double doubles. The crowd were into Marella. Beth eventually kicked her ass and won.
6. World Heavyweight Title Match: John Cena (c) defeated Randy Orton and Chris Jericho. This was an entertaining match. Jericho cut a heel promo about not really being Canadian before the match to get boos. When Cena entered the ring, he threw his shirt to this kid with an afro in the wrong row. Orton started to mouth off the guy and then throughout the entire match, Orton would mouth off the guy...it was pretty funny. Cena even rolled Orton up into a schoolboy while Orton was mouthing him off. It was a good match.
Notes: The entire show was 1 hour and 45 minutes, including 10 minutes of Finlay dancing with kids; and a match that included armbars and restholds. I felt ripped off by the effort given by some of the wrestlers on the show, but I haven't even got to the most messed up part of my WWE experience. After the show, Kelly Kelly signed autographs with the fans before leaving, and she was the only one who did that so kudos to her. John Morrison and The Miz were in character as they were leaving, mouthing off bystanders as they left.
