Once again, you all have enlightened me. I had no idea how good of a year 1980 was for film.
Let's give it another go, shall we?

Raging Bull for me. Elephant Man is also very good.

Still Empire Strikes Back. That's a great list of films, but Empire was one of the greatest films in the entire Star Wars franchise, which should clue you in into how good it is.

After some positive feedback from Bob S. (who's decided to do a 1981 in Film thread), I've decided to make this a daily occurance, ending in a poll battle for superior film of the decade.
See you tomorrow with 1982, y'all!

Lot of good stuff came out in that year.
Caddyshack, Airplane!, and the Blues Brothers are comedy classics.
Friday the 13th and The Shining are both horror classics.
Empire Strikes Back is an old childhood favorite of just about everyone born after 1970.
All I remember about Elephant Man is during freshman year of high school, I was out with my buddies using some "substances", and we all crashed at my friend's house and it was on HBO in the middle of the night and freaked me the hell out.
But, I guess the best movie, top to bottom, was Raging Bull IMO.

The Elephant Man, although it was hard to choose between that, The Shining, and Friday The 13th.
I had to go with it since I'm such a hardcore David Lynch fan.
