Seems like certain sports stars are bigger celebrities than some movie stars. We here a lot about certain people to the point of it being annoying. Some guys are stand up guys who are great at what they do and at being role models (Tiger, Peyton) and some are great at what they do but live not so great lives outside of sports (A-Roid, Kobe) Either way, the media loves to report about them and fans love to hear about them both on and off the field/court.
Every country seems to have that one Megastar athlete that represents them and is recognizable as being from that country (Beckham/England Ichiro/Japan) But who's the US of A's number one star?

Tiger, easily.
The only one that could top him would be Michael Jordan, but he's retired.

But when it comes to active athletes, it's Tiger, and then everyone else. When it comes to the #2 guy, it's between LeBron, Brady, and Jeter (A-Rod is the better player, but Jeter is the bigger "star").

Martin Brodeur
Tiger Woods can't win since golf is not a sport and therefore not an athlete

Strictly among Americans, it's LeBron.
To people from other countries, it's Tiger.

I thought about putting Jeter instead of A-Rod, but I think to general population, Rodriguez is the bigger star. Not to mention Jeter hasn't done much of anything on the field lately to really be considered the bigger star. A-Rod is the bigger star now more his off the field stuff I guess.

Has golf a big enough following to earn Tiger Woods the #1 spot?
I'd still say Michael Jordan is the most popular American athlete, especially among non-fans, casual fans or people who aren't sports buffs.
So in terms of active athletes, pick whoever is the Most Popular Guy in NBA

And it's tough to say that whoever the most popular guy in the NBA is now the most popular, becuase the NBA isn't nearly as popular as it was in the 80s-90s for various reasons...

LeBron surpassed Tiger a few years ago. I could buy into that notion. He was forced down America's throat before he was even out of high school.

So in terms of active athletes, pick whoever is the Most Popular Guy in NBA As popular as LeBron and Kobe are, they aren't as big of stars as Tiger. Tiger is the man in sports. Tiger's a golfer with exclusive deals with Nike, Upper Deck and a freaking car company. Golf without Tiger damn sure isn't as popular as the NBA. But golf with Tiger is a hell of a lot closer if not more popular. Tiger is the one guy in sports that can say, he is his game. I know that some people may hate it, but Tiger is golf. The revenue for tournaments and ratings without Tiger aren't that great. With Tiger they're big. Tiger has a big enough following to earn him the number 1 spot.

I voted "Other".
His first name starts with the letter "B" and rhymes with Laden.
His last name starts with the letter "W" and rhymes with Talker.
Can you possibly guess who I could be talking about?
