Hmmmm.....I don't know if I should see this. What say you, Question? *Hrrrm* Question is a pussy. Could take him with one arm behind back. Break his "lack of face" with one good strike. His failure to live up to my examples does not mean I suck. It means he needs to learn how to fight better. Also, HIS taste in suits BITES, for the record.

My biggest regret about this film is that--more than any other movie adaptation I've known about--A LOT of people are going to see the movie without having experienced the graphic novel first. The book is just one of those things that once it's completed that you'll never forget, I think. Once you see the movie first, that experience will NEVER replace the multiple mark-out moments available in the illustrations/storyline combo when you're truly reading Watchmen for the FIRST TIME with nothing else to base you're experience on.

True, but look at the plus side, any major movie that was an adaptation of a book or comic, especially if it was good, led to a boost in sales for the source material shortly after, so Watchmen may boom in sales in the movie's wake.

I cannot wait for this movie, but I really do have a bad feeling that Fox is going to do everything it can to sink this movie, either by guaranteeing it doesn't come out, or cutting it down into a mess. I feel really bad for Zack Snyder right now. I hope things don't get that far, but I can't shake the feeling that it will.

I don't get that. How is it a regret for you what OTHER people think about a movie? I've never read the book, and don't plan to until AFTER the movie. I don't need some kind of odd pity for that.

Right, definitely a good thing it would be. I guess I'm just thinking of how disappointed with myself I would be if I saw the movie first and then went back to the book and realized that the spoilers and everything I got from the movie would've been so much more effective in true comic book fashion. Truth be told, I guess I'm just being an over-enthusiastic mark about the book itself. Can't help it--was a great read both times for me, but that INITIAL thorough read is just a gem.

Don't worry, I've learned over the time I've spent on the boards to feel nothing toward you, so the initial comment--while implying a general audience--had nothing to do with you or people like you at all. In short, I would never pity you specifically in any situation. For those NOT trying to split hairs, I was thinking more along the lines of people who I know would appreciate the experience of reading it over watching the movie version. Once you see it on the big screen, you can't undo what it would've been like through the medium in which it was meant to be experienced.

Now that the suit has been settled, the officialsite has been updated. The character bios now feature more info and even some dialogue. Lookin' pretty sweet. watchmenmovie.warnerbros.com/

I love the book and the viewpoints of Alan Moore too much to taint myself with this Hollywood dreck.
I believe that all stories become a sort of mythology that can be reinterpreted and updated with the times. I do believe it is possible to do a successful cinematic interpretation of Watchmen. I just don't believe that Synder is a competant enough director to do that with something like Watchmen.
I like Moore's point how Hollywood takes a great concept, insists on spending 100s of millions on it and thus they have to dumb the concept down to try and ensure it financially recoups. Doesn't make any sense.

I cannot wait to see this. This, Star Trek and Cameron's Avatar are my absolute must-sees this year. I've watched the trailers about 100 times each I think. Just seeing Manhattan in action sends chills down my spine. Tales From The Black Freighter will be released on DVD in March as well: www.cinematical.com/2008/05/26/tales-of-the-black-freighter-getting-dvd-release/I've said this before, but the Simpsons got a huge laugh out of me when Alan Moore appeared and he had the comic "L'il Watchmen: V for Vacation". This comes out just near my birthday so happy birthday to me.
