I've actually been toying around with the idea of doing Protected Threads. What those are, for those who have not seen them elsewhere, are threads that are of a certain opinion (almost always in a generally positive light) and that's all that can be posted in them. This would mean that someone who came into the thread and went negative (or positive if it was a "I hate _____" thread) would be warned/suspended from the board. The cons to this are that it's just a tad further into opinion policing than I'd rather get involved and I know we wouldn't be able to have any sort of thread of this nature without the 'other side' demanding their own version of the same thread, and we just don't need two threads on every subject ever.

Another problem with protected threads is that it encourages more of that "us vs them" kinda nonsense that tends to bleed out to other discussions.

When I try to post from my phone, it says I've been banned.
But posting now, from my laptop, it doesn't.
Did I do something (and if I did, what was it)?
Is something wrong?

If you did something wrong you wouldn't be banned just on IP alone. So that means you probably roamed onto a banned IP, which happens from time to time unfortunately. Just PM one of us the IP and that'll be deleted out.

Do people often post on a thread that fell to the 2nd/3rd/etc. page?

Do people often post on a thread that fell to the 2nd/3rd/etc. page? It happens. Usually, as a thread loses interest, it'll recede in the background. If the thread subject has a new development, such as a new trailer released for a movie, it's better to bump the thread instead of making a new one. It's not a good idea to bump a thread with just a post saying bump if the post doesn't add anything to the discussion other than getting it back on the front page.

Do people often post on a thread that fell to the 2nd/3rd/etc. page? All the time. We encourage keeping topics contained to one thread if possible, so many posters will seek out (via search function or just looking through older threads) a topic dealing with what they want to discuss. This is perfectly fine and acceptable in practice, so long as it isn't gratuitous "bumping" (replying to a thread without actually adding anything relevant to the conversation).

How do posts like the ones in the "Austin Bombings" thread that repeatedly raise political points - like the idea that a suspect isn't being called a terrorist due to his skin color - not get dinged by the no politics rule?
Is it just a matter of users not reporting it? Or does the board maybe hold a certain stance on the matter and thinks it's so obviously true that it's not worth moderating?
(That second thing is not a shot. That's a perfectly fine opinion. One I disagree with, but if that's how people feel that's okay. I'm willing to have that discussion.)

(That second thing is not a shot. That's a perfectly fine opinion. One I disagree with, but if that's how people feel that's okay. I'm willing to have that discussion.) It’s something we look at on a thread by thread basis. With this subject, it’s inevitable that some Political and potentially Religious points will be brought up. We do try and give a bit of leeway so people can have a discussion about a major news story but it’s monitored more closely. I just now read the last couple of pages of the thread and it could have been locked a few hours ago (and probably should have been) but if there aren’t any active Mods around, it can go a bit further than we’re willing to allow. Upon looking through it just now, I decided to lock it up as it was starting to get a bit heated.

I understand that we can't use Sportskeeda or Dirty Sheets as news sources, but is using pics from those sites okay?
Otherwise, I'd have to re-host some of those to Imgur.

It would be better in the long run to host them on Imgur or another site. They could always end up replacing the pic you hotlinked to something untoward that could get you or us in trouble. Would a delete Facebook thread be too polarizing? I lean on it being too political. I know there is more to it but I am not sure we can dance around it to be honest. Can I change my username? Your display name can be changed: Profile > Edit Profile > Personal Username I don't believe can be changed.

No April Fools Day shenanigans today for the board? Or am I totally blind and dumb.
I'm willing to accept that possibility.
