We have reached Round 35!
In the event of a tie both will carry on to the next day to meet some other challenger. I will try and vary the sources from comics to TV show characters.
I'm also going to add a bit of story to this to make it interesting, it's still a favorite poll but it's going to have continuity!
I will happily take requests for future opponents. But in the meantime we have to continue the story ...
--------------------------------------
*Last time Kyle Rayner had gone to the aid of person whose city was under the control and attack of Blackheart. The two had just crossed paths.*
Kyle Rayner: Why are you doing this?
*Kyle dodges another dark bolt as he flings a flying imp into a wall sending it back to its home dimension*
Blackheart: I live for suffering and torment hero, I was born to a hundred murders and I will see more until I am the true ruler of my fathers realm. This is a mere footstep to that goal ... now lets see that green of yours wither and die!
*Blackheart appears over the rocky rubble kyle had taken cover behind and is about to grab the Lantern. But Kyle has let Blackheart talk so he can create a huge green mechanical robot, which plows into Blackheart form the side. Blackheart staggers back his form disrupted by the power of the Lantern's ring and creativity*
Kyle: Get back to the pit from which you came!
*As Blackheart fights off the construct another different kind of attack hits the demon flinging him over a building and out of sight. The energy construct goes with him as we see a large green explosion obscured by the buildings in the distance. Kyle looks across to find Zatanna was responsible for the magical telekinetic attack*
Zatanna: Finally someone has been sent to help.
Kyle: Erm ... I was just passing by actually.
Zatanna: Well it's good your here as that won't hold Blackheart off for long.
Kyle: I have to find Doctor Fate, his life may be in danger and the fate of the world could be in jeopardy. A new enemy calling himself the Legion is up to something terrible.
Zatanna: Legion? Perhaps that ties in with Blackheart. Shall we find out from our evil friend or should I try and communicate with Doctor Fate?
*As Kyle and Zatanna try to make a decision, the clouds above begin to turn an ominous purple and black, birds fly away and a demonic sound can be heard from the heart of the city.*
*Should Kyle go against Blackheart alone while Zatanna tries to contact Doctor Fate, or will they join forces to combat the demon?*
Kyle Rayner - Green Lantern (DC)
Before he acquired a Green Lantern power ring, Kyle Rayner was a struggling-but-gifted freelance graphic artist. He lived and worked in Los Angeles. After Hal Jordan, grief-stricken over the destruction of his home town of Coast City, went on a mad rampage killing the members of the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians of the Universe Rayner was found by the last surviving Guardian Ganthet. He was given the last Green Lantern power ring that would allow him to conjure any form of matter or energy through sheer force of will. Ganthet's reasons for choosing Kyle to bear the ring have never been made completely apparent, aside from Rayner having been in the right place at the right time: prior to bequeathing the ring upon Rayner, Ganthet simply utters, "You will have to do." Rayner then moved to New York City. His girlfriend, Alexandra DeWitt, helped Kyle train for his new role as a superhero, but was later murdered by the supervillain Major Force. Kyle developed relationships with Donna Troy, and later Jade, the daughter of Alan Scott. Kyle grew up enamored with Superman and Batman, though had only a passing knowledge of Earth's various Green Lanterns. This soon changed, and he found that the Green Lantern ring was the ultimate expression of his fertile imagination. While in battle, he often used the ring's power to create constructs of just about anything his artistic mind could imagine: other superheroes, anime characters, mystical characters, mechas, futuristic weapons and original characters from his comic books. While some questioned the practicality of those constructs, they often made Kyle an unpredictable and formidable opponent. As a Green Lantern, Kyle is semi-invulnerable, capable of projecting hard light constructions, flight, and utilizing various other abilities through his power ring which are only limited by his imagination and willpower. Kyle's constructs are much more elaborate than those of any other Green Lanterns, often fading into view like a sketch refined into an illustration. Eventually, he is able to utilize his skill as an artist to manipulate the pigments within his constructs, making them appear realistically that even Alan Scott were amazed of what Kyle can do with his ring's creations. When bonded with the benevolent Ion symbiote, Kyle as Ion is capable of much more elaborate usage of his imagination which can extend to the manipulation of reality. In possession of the more sinister Parallax entity, Kyle is theoretically capable of similar feats to Ion.
vs
Zatanna
Zatanna is the daughter of adventurer John Zatara and his wife Sindella, a member of the mystic tribe of sorcerers called the Hidden Ones, or Homo Magi. Zatanna inherited her mother's ability to manipulate magic and her father's penchant for heroism. Zatara travelled the world with his daughter and taught her to harness her magical abilities. Zatanna was later raised by strangers, however, when the evil witch Allura cursed Zatanna and prevented her from seeing her father. Zatanna was left to search fruitlessly for her natural parents. Zatanna discovered her father's diary and created a stage persona for herself. Her quest to find her father led her into a brief affair with John Constantine. Later, with the help of the Justice League Of America, Zatanna was able to lift Allura's curse and reunite with her father and later her mother. As a long standing member of the Justice League of America, Zatanna fought countless super-villains and mystic threats. After the death of her father, however, she retired from active adventuring. She now lives in San Francisco, seeking a normal life while trying to preserve the balance of Earth's light and dark mystical community. In this role she serves as one of the Sentinels of Magic. Zatanna is a powerful sorceress whose abilities are apparently genetic. As a tribute to her father and as a focal point, she usually casts spells by speaking verbal commands backwards. She has also proven capable on many occasions of casting spells by speaking normally, and, in rarer occasions, the ability to use magic for simple tasks without speaking. Like Black Canary, Zatanna's reliance on her voice often led to her being bound and gagged by villains in Silver Age stories, thus rendering her 'powerless'. On very rare occasions, Zatanna has cast spells by writing them in her own blood rather than speaking them aloud. As stated by herself and Batman, blood magic is far more powerful than spoken incantations, it's used as a last resort, only to heal from severe physical damage preventing her to speak, like having her larynx mangled by a bullet. Zatanna owns a mansion called Shadowcrest, in which she keeps a vast library of magical knowledge, as well as an arsenal of powerful relics, enough to do "just about anything you'd want to do." Shadowcrest seems to exist in a completely different dimension, although it is initially located outside of Gotham. Over the years she has had trust issues with other league members and catwoman when using her mind-wipe ability, this came to a head during the incident with Dr. Light.
