Its not a sport. I'm sorry but you can't believe the anger I have when golf gets a top spot on a highlight countdown over something more interesting, athletic or amazing like a hockey, football, baseball, basketball, boxing, cricket, MMA, pro wrestling, soccer...etc I strongly disagree with you sir. The natural ability it takes to make sure that all the points in the golf swing function as planned is nothing short of a sporting miracle. To see Tiger Woods swing in perfect balance while moving a clubhead at over 118 mph is something that has to be classified as a sport. The mental challenge is there. You try to hold a lead coming down the back nine at Augusta and then we can talk about how amazing it is. It may not lend itself to the fast paced highlight driven world of other sports that you mention, but it has a long and storied history that includes some of the greatest competitors throughout the sports world. It takes natural ability to throw a dart in the same spot 3 times... doesn't make it a sport. It takes mental discipline to throw that perfect dart when its for the win... but again both aren't classified as a sport. The only reason that it gets more play on TV or ESPN is because the suits play more golf and think people would rather see that then say bowling which for a while got comparable ratings at one point.

I understand what you are trying to say and I concede you your half of the arguement. To define what is a sport is difficult and we each have our own different ideas of what that entails. I see no point to bandy about the issue as you and I will not change each others mind.

I used to play somewhat frequently a few years back but I stopped. Occasionally, I head out to the driving range. I love to play Golf, but shit it's torture to watch on television.
