Both movies were on ABC Family today.
Great, great baseball movies (especially The Sandlot)
Though it's hard to see Gary Busey in ROTY now that I know how crazy he can be in real life. Would have been funny to see him act crazy in the film.

Yes. I just finished watching Little Big League and now The Sandlot is on. Kid baseball movies rock.

I think '94 had at least 3 kid-themed baseball flicks. Angels in the Outfield, Rookie of the Year and Little Big League.
And the real-life baseball strike.
What either of those have to do with each other, I don't know. Or even why I'm about to hit 'submit'.

The Sandlot is one of my favorite childhood movies. Rookie of the Year, not so much, but it's still an enjoyable flick. Too bad they didn't air Little Big League - that would've been quite the trifecta. Actually, they did. Just saw the programming guide. Went out to lunch so I missed that one. Come to think of it, I've never seen Little Big League.

I think '94 had at least 3 kid-themed baseball flicks. Angels in the Outfield, Rookie of the Year and Little Big League. Those three movies, along with The Sandlot, all played a crucial role in me gaining interest in baseball. Such great movies that hold up pretty well today. The Sandlot was far and away my favorite of the bunch. Apparently they made a third one were Luke Perry travels back in time. I don't know what else to say. Come to think of it, I've never seen Little Big League. Once you get past the absurdity of a 12-year old owning and managing a baseball team, you see a pretty nice flick. I always loved how Griffey Jr. was portrayed as a God amongst men in the final game.

I will try and check out Little Big League. Hopefully they replay it tomorrow before the season starts.

I will try and check out Little Big League. Hopefully they replay it tomorrow before the season starts. Of the four movies (Sandlot, Little Big League, RotY, Angels), I always thought Little Big League had the best baseball action. A lot of the scenes looked pretty realistic, and it helps that they got some big-named players (Randy Johnson, Griffey Jr. to name two).

A lot of the scenes looked pretty realistic, and it helps that they got some big-named players (Randy Johnson, Griffey Jr. to name two). It really did have the best baseball action. And it did help that they got a crapload of real baseball players. Out of those 4 baseball movies, I'd rank Rookie of the Year as the worst. And you've got to love that Major League: Back to the Minors paid homage to Little Big League.

Oh yeah, I remember those movies. How come I never got some throwing power when I broke my arm? Rookie of the year lied to me!

Little Big League is probably the best baseball movie of the 90s. It's just done so well that you can't deny it. Plus, it was made for both kids and adults.
Then I'd go with The Sandlot. Stepping away from the majors and it's just a bunch of kids playing ball and trying to get their ball back from thsi dog.
Third goes to Rookie of the Year. It highlighted the dark side of baseball in a way with a young upstart takes over for an aging star. Plus the dirty dealings and how pressures hurt friendships in a way.
And then there's Angles in the Outfield. It was so dopey and so campy that it was just bad. Plus, it featured both Tony Danza and Foster Problems. Both of those things just spell disaster.

The Sandlot...aaaaaaah Wendy Prefercorn....I also like how Porter (the catcher) when they played the actual little league teams would mouth the players as they were batting...damn that Benny Rodriguez must have been on the juice at that age...
Rookie Of The Year....Too cheesy in ways never really connected with it just like the few funny spots in it and the fact that Rowengardner had a Peter Brady squeaky cracky voice didn't help any...
Ange;s in the Outfield...Everytime I think about the movie I wanna get up and start flappin my arms like angel wings (or like a parrot if you are Koko B. Ware)

[about Smalls' hat] Benny Rodriguez: Got a fireplace?
Scotty Smalls: Yeah.
Benny Rodriguez: Throw that in there, man.
