Has anyone else read the first issue yet?
It's not the book I'd usually get into, especially it being an independent title (Boom Studios), but it's a book that's very impressive to look at and very disturbing to read.
To put the plot simply, it's about the world's greatest hero now becoming the world's most evil *insert bad word here* and if you've read the first issue, you'll know what I mean.
The first issue sets up a few things which I'm really looking forward to seeing how it unfolds and, along with that, it's coming from a guy who loves Superman so much. And jeez...is it something he writes very well.
I'm definatly looking forward to #2 and if you haven't picked up #1 yet, I highly recommend it. Right now, it's the best and riskiest title coming out of Boom Studios.

Mark Waid is a very talented man and nice to fans (he even drew pictures for me in my F4 hardcover when I asked), but I haven't followed him over to Boom! because of price points. Last I checked, single issues from the company were $4 or so, and I have a limited budget that new $4 books don't fit into. Apart from the Street Fighter series, I pretty much don't buy any comics any longer due to price concerns. I wish him well though, because success can be hard to come by in a smaller company.

That's funny, actually, because it's been my first comic run for a long while so I was limiting myself to that, Superman: World of New Krypton 1 and 2 and Flash: Rebirth. I grabbed the Captain America special because I'm a James Robinson fan but I'm going to try and limit myself to just titles I really like or were looking forward to. And, for Flash: Rebirth, I interviewed Ethan Van Sciver so I had to at least show my support for it. Will dive into a few more as the money comes in more.

For buying a limited amount of books the pricing isn't too bad, especially since Waid usually delivers. But I had some 30 books on my pull list that all were $3 or more and going up and had to bail.
Dunno if you're limiting yourself to super-heroes, but Waid's Potters Field got excellent reviews (3 issues, also from Boom!).

I'm only limiting myself to super heroes because it's more about what I know in terms of comics, but I'd love to try new things. Graphic Novels of Y: The Last Man have been high on my priority list, for example.

Y is alright, but if you like super-heroes they you really should try Starman. Its one of the best series of the 90's, a mature look at super-heroes without all the bull%$ that passes as mature (ie tits and ass and exxxtreme violence). In as realistic a way as possible, it looks at the life of Jack Knight, son of the original Starman and his career as a reluctant hero carry on the family legacy. It's also a limited series (80 issues) so you get a complete story, a completely satisfying one at that. DC has been kind enough to start printing hardcovers (about 16 issues a pop) that are cheap on amazon and DEFINITELY worth the cost. I recommend this series to anyone who likes comics.

Read it, first issue didn't do much for me, if it doesn't grab me by issue three I'll probably drop it, though I hope it does cause I luv Waid.
