Reading this in the movie hate thread made me think.
"One of the problems is that many have simply forgotten about that film and simply assume the series begins with Rambo: First Blood Part II. Regardless of what you think of the series as a whole, the first film is a solid movie with good acting and directing by all involved."
What other movies does people have misconseptions of like that?
For example, I don't have any idea how many times people have mentioned "the guy in a hockey mask" about the first Friday the 13th.

Oh a movie based off a comic book. I won't go see that.
Pfft another remake.

Still a lot of people assume the very first Godzilla film (Gojira) is just a silly little B monster movie.
If they have seen the original Japanese cut of the film they would see a Drama filled disaster film with a strong anti Nuclear Weapon message.

People who say things like, "another film based in (any) genre. I won't go see that!" People who hate all silent or black and white films because "they look old". People who make their judgment on a film's quality based solely on the amount of money it has made in its theatrical release.

I gotta refute this one. That attitude, in my case, is more a frustration that original films are harder and harder to come by.

on the amount of money it has made in its theatrical release. In defnense to that, TITANIC. By having the whole thing be a story the old lady was telling you knew Leo was going to die so a lot of that openign could have been trimmed. There was a lot of room on that door for the two of them Also, people took that film as if it was the be-all and end-all and was actually told it was "more than a movie"

That Rotten Tomatoes has the final say as to if a film is good or bad, and that any critic who votes "against the Tomatometer" (whatever that means, really) is somehow an idiot. I really REALLY hate that site.

Of course Jason is usually referred to as "that guy with the chainsaw". Hell, it's possible some mistake Freddy as the chainsaw guy.

I'm no Friday the 13th encyclopedia, but doesn't he actually use a chainsaw in one of the movies? Anyway, as far as movie ignorance I've witnessed, I have a friend who tol me the Silent Hill movie sucks because it's based on a video game, and since all other movies based on games suck (a questionnable statement in itself), it sucks as well.

In defense of your friend, most movies based on video games are horrible. It's not quite like comics/sci-fi/horror where someone would say "this movie sucks based on its genre" out of pure ignorance. Until about the mid 90s, most games had very minimal plots anyway.

I think a LOT of Resident Evil game fans would disagree with that statement. That man took what should have been a sure fire home run, and turned it into nothing more than a glorified star vehicle for his baby mamma. And humbled the damn series in the old country way while he did it. The only thing that's even remotely RESIDENT EVIL about those films is the name, and a few character names, though the characters themselves bear very little resemblance to their game counterparts. Anderson is a step above Uwe Boll, in my book. At this point, they need to fire him and reboot the damn series from scratch. Maybe start with Code: Veronica or something, or hell, even just make a movie based on RE5, with Chris and Sheva. /Dissenting opinion.

That's a tough choice, but you know....internet whipping boy Zack Snyder DID do a pretty nifty job with his DAWN OF THE DEAD reboot. So he knows what he's doing with zombies....though, to be quite honest, I would want a director that actually knows how to bring out the true pathos of such a situation, and still make things suitably horrific. Snyder did an OK job in my opinion, but as far as directorial skill goes.... Danny Boyle from 28 DAYS LATER comes to mind.

But someone once told me that Godzilla was originally an ape. Is that true? I asked him if he was confused with King Kong and he said he wasn't He swears Godzilla used to be a giant green ape. That can't be true can it?

Excellent choice, but D.B. is now an Academy Award winning director, so you'd have to spend the big bucks for him. And you'd have to butt heads with the studio bean counters who think "Video Game Movie=Crappy B-Movie, so I'm not spending more than 30 mil on it".
