My kids go through about a loaf of bread every two days and there are usually one or two bread bags lying around with just the heels in them. I just use the heels rather than grabbing a fresh loaf of bread out of the freezer.

Was just talking to my wife about this. She throws them away. I don't believe in waste. A thing I developed as I cruised into my 30's and got all forthright. Plus, when you're running low on bread, if you don't use that last / first piece, you throw off the rotation and can run one slice short. And THEN where are you?

I eat them. Figure I might as well not let them go to waste.
Oh, and this thread title would make a great name for an album.

They make a great emergency hamburger bun. I don't throw them, unless I'm at the end of the loaf and have to start a new one and haven't yet found a sufficient use for them. In which case, they go outside for the birds.

In which case, they go outside for the birds. That is what my grandpa does with them. And there is always this one blue jay that likes to bully all the other birds away so he can have the tin to himself.

I don't have a problem with them, so I'll certainly eat them after I finish off the rest of the bread first.

I keep them, add them to the pile of bread that I let dry out and then make into bread crumbs. No Shake & Bake or anything like that for me, thanks, I'll stick with seasoning my own bread crumb, toasting it, and then breading my meat of choice to broil or fry.

I don't use them on my sandwiches, but I eat those pieces.
